Hot dog! Pink’s to open up shop at LAX

Next time you’re spaced out in the security line, listening to your stomach growl while bemoaning a lack of edible excitement awaiting in the terminals ahead, think chili dog slathered in cheese and bacon. Think spicy onions, globs of relish, and you can decide later whether to hold the sour cream. Think wieners that stretch from London to Lima — or at least from one destination’s departure gate to the other (we can dream).

Think Pink’s Hot Dogs.

If you haven’t heard, the iconic hot dog stand — which has long drawn masses of tourists and locals and has even served as the site of a celebrity marriage proposal — will soon be opening up shop in the Tom Bradley International Terminal of Los Angeles International Airport. According to the Times’ Daily Dish blog, “The airport Pink’s will serve 11 of its 21 varieties of hot dogs and no hamburgers (though that’s subject to change before the opening). Various accounts have it opening anywhere from late fall to late December.”

“For 70 years, Pink’s has been a must-see, must-eat destination in Los Angeles for both locals and international visitors alike,” said Pinks owner Richard Pink in a news release announcing the future opening. “So it made perfect sense to bring a little bit of this Los Angeles nostalgia and history to LAX, one of the busiest airports in the world. This allows visitors from all over the world to experience Pink’s and its famous hot dogs, whether they plan a stop in Hollywood or not.”

The Pink’s location at LAX — the first airport location for the Hollywood eatery — will open in partnership with Los Angeles World Airports and Delaware North Cos. Travel Hospitality Services.

Just when you thought you couldn’t handle one more airport line …

    Serve that hypertension.

  2. -SauL Says:

Pink’s has have to have some of the worst tasting Hot Dogs known to man. I’ve lived in L.A. 23 years and have had Pink’s numerous times, i’d rather save my time, gas and money and eat a MUCH BETTER TASTING hot dog from Wienerschnitzel…. Pink’s is all hype, typical Hollywood BS.

  3. GEORGE CLOONEY Says:

THOSE ARE SOME VERY UGLY LOOKING HOT DOGS PICTURED IN THIS ARTICLE…MAYBE PINKS SHOULD RECONSIDER THEIR MARKETING AND THE APPEARANCE OF PRODUCTS THAT THEY’LL BE GOUGING THE PUBLIC AT LAX…

  4. mrartatom Says:

Great. All we need is gassy people flying.

  5. nancy Says:

    “gassy people flying” LOL!!!
    (Those are REALLY Gawdawful looking.)

  6. peer2 Says:

Pinks has a famously long line of people waiting (because the service is so slow) I can see the international travelers running with their hot dogs to catch the plane!
(and they don’t taste THAT bad, especially when breaded and wrapped in bacon, natch!)

    TOMMY’S RULES

  8. matterhorn Says:

These hot dogs are disgusting, keep lining up for them - you sheep!

  9. Henry H. Says:

Fab’s hot dogs in reseda is SOOOO much better!!!

  10. Dr. C A Harmon Says:

I’ve lived in LA for 18 years and probably been to Pink’s about 10 times. I will agree that the dogs are just so so but they do have an amazing chili cheese chicken breast burrito!!!! You will pay for it for 3 days but it’s worth it!!!!

  11. chuck Says:

I’ve lived in L.A. all my life and I heard of Pink’s as a teen. I tasted a dog that was lousy then and they are still the worst hot dog’s yet{tried one last year}.

  12. Port City Studios Says:

May we recommend portcitystudios.org, an online gallery of photographic art featuring Los Angeles and Hollywood landmarks photographed between 1987 and 1999. Some, like Pinks, have survived, but many, such as the Cocoanut Grove, are gone forever, except in our memories and, thankfully, in photographs.

  13. f ron miller Says:

Agreed, those dogs are awful. Yet they do have one of the coolest signs in town. And do they capitalize on that distinctive identity with their airport stand??? Nope. Bad tasting dogs and even worse taste in signage! P.U.

  14. sten Says:

Had Pink’s once, was ill the next 24 hours, never again. Pink really is a supreme example of how people can be like sheep. And now they will make LAX smelly too.

  15. Bill Says:

Perhaps Dr. Harmon should discover Pepcid.— Most processed meat is half-spoiled and way too much salt. Kosher is no help, most kosher dogs taste like old rubber tires.

  16. Jenny Craig Says:

Great, another place for more people to get Fat in this town

  17. Janice L Sheraden Says:

I grew up on pinks dogs and burgers. Then they only had chili, mustard, and onions dogs. I’m hungry just thinking of them. I now live in another state and don’t have access to them but it’s been my goal to find one near me. Try Laughlin, NV or Bullhead , AZ. I’ll help promate them as I know what a true dog tastes like.

  18. John T. Says:

Yeah, right, Saul. Thats’ why Wienerschnitzel has patrons lined up for 50-100 feet outside their restaurants waiting to get one of their generic hot dogs . After 40 years, I quit going to Pinks just because of the long wait to get served. While your’e at it, Saul, why don’t you just give us the address of the Weinerschnitzel you own and be done with it?

  19. Hills-Jury Says:

YUCK! There’s waaaay better dogs at plenty of other places. Best chili has always been Tommy’s. Pink’s may have been o.k. at best back in the day but today and for the past (many) years it’s been riding on it’s on hype, kinda like The Original Pantry in downtown L.A. What was then certainly is not now any more.

  20. Kenny Says:

I dont like these dogs. They arent yummy
