When the sold-out Comic-Con International hits San Diego, July 22-26, 2009, you’re likely to see masked men and women, brightly colored spandex, funny hats and perhaps some vampires. But one thing you won’t see much of is a cheap hotel room.
Moral of the story then, for those who are missing out or would rather skip this major pop-culture gathering? Get to San Diego before the convention to be easier on your wallet. Great introductory rates and a fun package are on offer at the newly opened Hotel Indigo San Diego Gaslamp Quarter, which is ultra-hip with two “eco-roofs” and attractive amenities.
Deal: The hotel, which officially opened July 13, is one of a handful of Indigo properties offering a “Neighborhood Nosh” package, which you must book via the promotion page. It includes a breakfast for two at the onsite Phi Bar and Bistro and a $25 prepaid credit card valid for lunch or dinner at a restaurant in the Gaslamp Quarter or East Village.
For this Saturday, July 18, I’m seeing this package available for $189 for the night (pre-tax). This is $20 more than the regular “best flexible rate” room that does not come with the noshy extras.
FYI, the lowest “best flexible rate” I’m seeing at Hotel Indigo during Comic-Con starts at $399 per night.
Hotel Indigo amenities include free WiFi; a 24-hour fitness center; access to the Phi Terrace Bar on the 9th-floor rooftop, from which you can peer down at home plate of the San Diego Padres’ PetCo Park); a 37-inch flat-screen TV; and an iHome/MP3 alarm clock radio.
And those green roofs we mentioned? Here’s a photo taken in June of the 12th-floor plot:
When: The “nosh” promo is valid for stays now through Aug. 31, 2009.
Tip: If you want to check out this hotel, note that prices are likely lower now in these early days than they will be later. Rates are expected to start at the $200-and-up range in the future, according to a hotel spokesperson.
