If you’ve been vacationing in Hawaii before, you already know that fall is a bargain time to visit the islands. While round-trip summer airfares from LAX under $500 were nearly impossible to come by, you can fly to the islands during late August, September and October for at least a hundred dollars less.
Deal: In many cases, the airlines themselves (rather than online travel discounters) are offering the best deals on round-trip flights from the mainland to Hawaii. American Airlines, ATA, Continental Airlines, Northwest Airlines and United Airlines are all offering discount airfares starting under $400 for round-trip flights from LAX to all of the main islands.
For example, the lowest airfares (including taxes & fees) that I could find today for a round-trip flight from LAX (9/13-9/17/07) were: $317.30 to Honolulu on ATA and $394.30 to Maui, Big Island (Kona) or Kauai on American Airlines.
Update on 7/19/07: ATA now has round-trip flights to Maui for $377.30.
Have you found a round-trip Hawaii fare for under $300 this fall? Tell us how you did it by posting in the Comments section below.
When: Booking your trip now for the fall gives you the best selection of flights. How long these airfares are available depends upon each airline. However, I found low fares available through mid-December, with the exception of the Thanksgiving holiday.
Caveat: Because it’s impossible to predict which airline has the lowest airfare for your travel dates and island destination, use a meta-search engine, such as Kayak or SideStep, to get a better idea of which airline to trying booking with directly first.
Why Go: It’s less crowded to visit Hawaii during the fall. Once December rolls around, airfares as low as these will disappear.
Why Not: Honestly, I can’t think of a good reason why not to take advantage of deals like these.

Hawaiian Air has great rates - below $300 roundtrip

[...] This fall looks like it is shaping up to be a great time to find more affordable airfare and accommodations for your Hawaii vacation. We’ve been considering a trip back to Maui in September and I’ve come across several great looking condos in the Wailea area for around $150 to $250 per night. The LA Times Daily Travel Deal Blog is reporting that airfares from LAX to Hawaii for late-August through October are at least a hundred dollars less than the summer fares. Sounds like a great time to Go Visit Hawaii. Bookmark or share this post:These icons link to social bookmarking sites where readers can share and discover new web pages. [...]

Hi KG:
Thanks for the hot tip. Was that under $300 including taxes? I tried to find the fare you mentioned online, but didn’t have any luck. If you have a chance, let us know what dates you were looking at. I assume this was for LAX-HNL flights only?
Thanks again,
Sara
