Hawaii: Aloha Airlines’ 3 fall airfare sales

Aloha Airlines just announced some new fall sales, including last-minute fares for travel to Hawaii before the end of September, plus special discounts for trips to the islands around the Thanksgiving holiday. So, why not trade turkey for some kalua pig instead this year?

Deal: The catch is that you’ll need to fly out of John Wayne Airport (SNA) in Orange County. Fares to Honolulu, Maui and the Big Island start at $433.80, including taxes and fees, for a round-trip flight during September and $533.80 for travel November 22-26. But if you can fly from San Diego International Airport (SAN), round trips to Maui during the Thanksgiving holiday cost only $433.80.

Aloha Airlines is having another fall sale for travel between October 15 and December 4, with round-trip flights for just $20 more than the last-minute September fares from Orange County to Oahu, Maui or the Big Island, and $40 less each way for departures from San Diego to Maui only.

When: You must book the last-minute specials and Thanksgiving sale fares by September 25, 2007. Book ASAP for the best seat availability.

Caveat: As I find usually happens with Aloha Airlines, the last-minute September sale and special Thanksgiving fares were only available in both directions for travel from Hawaii to the mainland. I was unable to find a round-trip flight in the other direction at the lowest advertised fares.

Why Go: The next-cheapest airfare that I could find for trips between Honolulu and San Diego, Orange County or LAX cost at least $545 for trips between now and the end of September.

Why Not: Cheaper airfares may be available for direct flights from LAX to Hawaii for Thanksgiving. For example, a round trip from Los Angeles to Honolulu on Northwest Airlines booked today cost just $444 (Nov. 22-27).
