Hawaii: 4th night free, $200 gas credit & more at Big Island resort

Mauna Lani Resort, Big Island, Hawaii

In this age of Hawaii-hotel deals aplenty, I’m accustomed to seeing one day of a multiple-nights stay free or a gas credit offered, but Mauna Lani Point is doing both, as well as offering free groceries.

I thought I’d test out this luxe package that sounded almost too good to be true. When I did the math, I found the promo not as amazing as it first seemed. But it is a discount nonetheless, and if you needed an excuse to take advantage of some fine living on the Big Island’s Kohala Coast, it’s as good a reason as any, I’d say.

Deal, or no deal? The “Gas on Us” promotion gives you a fourth night free when you pay for three, and a $200 gas credit, which can be used at any time. In addition, with this deal, you’ll receive an arrival package of groceries, valued at $100. Nightly rates for rooms under this package are $375 and up per night (pre-tax), and The Islands accommodations start at $585 per night (pre-tax).

However, on this property, if you go via the normal, non-package reservation route, you can get a room this fall and winter for as low as $225 per night (pre-tax), which equals $900 for four nights. The “promo” rate, of course, starts at $1,125 for four nights. If the gas and groceries don’t matter much to you, then stick with a non-package booking.

With the package’s gas card and groceries, you end up with a discount of $75 for your stay. It’s not substantial, but you may want to consider this route if you’re planning a Kohala Coast stay. This is a highly rated resort that sounds lush and very lovely.

When: This promotion is valid for travel now through Dec. 19, 2009.

It’s important to note that the review provided is not for the accomodations listed in this offer. The review is of the Mauna Lani Resort Hotel; the offer is for Mauna Lani Point, which are condos and townhomes on a golf course. Both of these properties are part of the Mauna Lani Resort, but they are quite distinct.

I had the opportunity to stay in an oceanfront room at the Mauna Lani Hotel. Impeccable. I’d highly recommend the hotel if you have deep pockets. I’ve never stayed in any of the villas/townhouses. You would still have access to the hotel facilities (pool, restaurants, two beaches, spa), but you would not have a traditional hotel experience.

Just wanted to make sure people knew there was a difference in these properties. :-)

Aloha Alex and mahalo for noting that important distinction.

Indeed, our “Contact” link points of the Mauna Lani Point website - http://www.maunalanipoint.com - but our other link above that, to the review that refers to the property as “sounds lush and very lovely” points to the review of the adjacent Mauni Lani Resort - http://www.maunalani.com - as you mention.

As the detailed deal offer page notes, the offer is also valid at the nearby Islands at Mauna Lani fairway townhomes, and includes an additional grocery arrival package, valued at $100.

All these properties sound rather intriguing and we’d love to hear more comparisons of the them and read more trip reports from other readers.
