The new swish Hard Rock Hotel in San Diego’s Gaslamp district is open to guests as of November 1 and they’re taking reservations now. Getting the Black Eyed Peas’ Suite with a private balcony that overlooks Woodstock Terrace, the pool and Rande Gerber’s Sweetwater Lounge is sure to impress clients if you’re in town for a convention. But don’t worry the basic studio room is enough to get the bragging rights of saying you’ve stayed there.
Open to the public? When I called Hard Rock Hotel San Diego reservations today, they said that there may be at least one pool bar open to the public and of course Nobu San Diego is open to the public (reservations recommended). Pool status may change since they don’t have all the details just yet.
Deal or no Deal? There are no special packages on the website so far but rooms opening week (November 12) are going for $325/night midweek and starting at $365/night opening weekend. If you can wait, you’ll find good rates on and around Thanksgiving. Rooms start at $225/night (pre-tax) November 21 and 22. The price remains that low if you want to stay at the hotel on the weekend. Note: The hotel is in final construction and could open as early as Oct. 15, but reservations can be made as early as Nov. 1 if you call by phone and Nov. 12 if you book online.

I stayed at the Hard Rock San Diego this past weekend and have to say — AMAZING. One of the best hotel experiences I’ve ever had….

I’m staying at the Hard Rock right now. Had to move from 4th floor room to higher floor due to intense sewer smell from room’s bathroom & the entire floor (mgt. says they’re aware of the smell); Hard Rock Suite (mid-range room) has bathroom between sitting area & bedroom, as in the sink is out in the open “hallway-like” space between the 2 areas; there are still a number of venues not to be opened until Jan; staff ill-informed on basic info (the doorman @ Sweetwaters told me the street the main entrance is located on was 6th & K St, when it’s really 5th & L St.) Too many other little glitches to mention. Would most likely NOT stay here again unless someone else was picking up the bill. Much better places in SD to stay.

This was definitely the most amazing Hotel I have ever stayed at. The amenities are extremely plush and I love the decor. Everything is very modern. The hotel seems like they have finished construction finally and it was really a happening place. The best thing about the hotel was the location… It is right at the heart of the Gaslamp in Downtown San Diego near all the clubs, bars, restauraunts, and shops. It is right off the Red Line in downtown and directly across the street from the Convention Center. 5th Street is the best street to be on in downtown and that is where it is.
The view from our room was an awesome view of the Woodstock Terrace where they hold concerts. I’d definitely reccommend this hotel to anyone who really wants a hotel above and beyond the rest.

wow! i was fortunate enough to be at the grand opening as a guest of Billy Tuchscher. We were hanging with Will.i.am and Apl.d.ap of the peas. It was such a chill environment. I think they had the security so tight that there were no big crowds. no crush that celebrity can cause. Just cool peeps and a really fun time. —- its a great spot!
