Preview L.A. hotels via Google Maps Street View?

Google Maps logoLos Angeles, San Diego, Houston and Orlando have been added to the “Street View” feature on Google Maps. It started happening for Los Angeles late last night, and we can only imagine how many people are going to get reprimanded today at work as they play the game of Google Maps celebrity-spotting. Here’s Disney Hall.

Here’s a link to a gallery of interesting shots from around Los Angeles and California.

Caveat: When you click on Street View within Google Maps, a picture won’t automatically pop up. Here’s a shot of Santa Monica.

[Ed.: A resident L.A. Times staffer tells us that Santa Monica images here appear to be a few blocks out of alignment - any reports from other parts of town?]

You have to use the little yellow man to get a photo up and move him around to see direction. It’s not that easy to do. And if you don’t know what the hotel looks like already, it’s tough to get the little man to look at the exact address.

    Street View user tips:
    1) Once you’re in the Street View, it’s easier to maneuver within the view by clicking on the spots that you want to get closer to - as opposed to tryiing to move the little yellow man.

    2) in looking for the Grauman’s Chinese Mann theatre - I finally found it with the LYM a bit to the left of the “A” marked address spot. You can see the distance (and the theatre) here: http://tinyurl.com/243nzk

My first attempts to find Grauman’s Chinese Mann resulted in finding the Virgin Megastore - that looks like a Star Wars storm trooper out front!! Check it: http://tinyurl.com/2f92uc

When was the last time you paid $2.63 in California for regular unleaded?

Looks like Google may have licensed some outdated imagery from it’s partner Immersive Media
