Starting in 2010, Disney will give away free theme-park tickets to 1 million people who spend a day volunteering in their community.
The give-a-day, get-a-day marketing campaign — which replaces the wildly successful 2009 free-on-your-birthday promotion — starts Jan. 1, 2010 and runs through Dec. 15, 2010.
Volunteers must pre-register online at the HandsOn Network — which represents more than 70,000 nonprofit agencies nationwide — to be eligible for the free ticket.
The tickets are valid at six theme parks in the U.S.:
Disneyland and Disney’s California Adventure in Anaheim and the Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Disney’s Animal Kingdom in Orlando, Fla. The free tickets are not valid at Disney’s water parks or international theme parks.
Annual passholders who volunteer can receive a FastPass card, a collectible figurine and trading pin pack, or donate the ticket to a pre-approved charity. (Sorry, no gift cards this time around).
Free-ticket blackout dates:
* Disneyland: Feb. 13-14, March 21, June 21-22, July 4, Nov. 21 and Dec. 11-12
* Disney World: March 29-April 8 and July 4.
Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy and the Muppets characters will headline the yearlong Cheers for Volunteers marketing campaign.

This is a fabulous idea, and really is much classier than the “free on your birthday” gimmick.
Although I imagine Nancy Luna is going to be furious that she isn’t getting a free gift card in 2010. Better batten down the hatches at the Guest Services window at Disneyland!

I just turned the T.V. on and caught the very end of the campaign commercial. All I heard was the “give a day, get a day” then the announcer said go to ….Disney…com???? I thought this is perfect!!! My oldest son was asking for $$$ to go to Disneyland for a day and I told him he could go but he would have to pay for it himself. He is a senior in high school and has no job. I told him to work for it or earn it? Have a yard sale, car wash, go door to door and ask people if he could cut there grass? But, teens just really rather have the money without working for it or understanding how hard these economic times are. I am a Realtor and make crafts and sell them and my husband was injured at work and is unable to collect any form of Disability, Social Security,! Zero dinero, mulla! I love this idea of give a day for a free day! It will help teach our youth all about so many life lessons, how when you give you really do get more out of it then you could ever imagine. So Thanks Disney for this wonderful all around opportunity! I am going to have my whole family do this!!!
