You don’t have to be a total penny pincher to love a bargain. So British Airways is handing out free companion tickets to full-fare and other premium customers. Of course, there are rules:
The deal: Fly anywhere British Airways goes by Dec. 31. Then fly again next year after Jan. 15 and get a free companion ticket good for all classes except fully nonrefundable fares.
Who’s in: Customers who pay certain fares in coach (World Traveller, H, B or Y class) or fly in upgraded coach (World Traveller Plus), business (Club World) or first class. They must belong to the airline’s frequent-flier program, the Executive Club, and register for the deal.
Who’s out: Coach customers who pay certain nonrefundable, discount fares.
The savings: Could be thousands. The lowest fares (including taxes and fees) when I checked BA’s website Wednesday for LAX-Heathrow round trips for random dates (Feb. 3-10) were $12,741 for first class, $5,741 for Club World and $1,830 for World Traveller Plus.
The restrictions: A bunch. You’ll find these under “Terms and Conditions” on the British Airways website.
Also worth noting: Open Skies is offering round trips on its new New York-Amsterdam flights, which start Oct. 15, for as low as $1,609, including taxes and fees, in business and and $1,158 in Prem+ (a class between business and economy). You must book by Friday. Details are on the airline’s website.
