Some people love the slow, relaxed method of traveling by barge. Especially in France. As Thomas Swick recounted in a first-person barge article this year, “Try this once in your life: Stand on a boat as it moves slowly down the narrow waterway of a foreign country. The world passes by, close and observable, and you watch it with a sense of elevated station. The clarity, the buoyancy, the cushiness make you feel privileged in a way even the sportiest rental car can’t.”
Deal: Buy one six-night barge-cruise package with France Vacations and get the second one free. All meals with 22 different regional wines, daily shore excursions with entrance fees and expert guides, air-conditioned motor coaches for excursions and use of bicycles are included.
There are five different barge cruises to choose from in October with prices starting at $1,915 per person, based on double occupancy. Details about the five cruises, which include trips on the Mossel River in northeastern France, into the heart of Alsace-Lorrain, along the River Saône, through the Burgundy Canal and an impressionist-inspired cruise on the Anacoluthe are all available on the “specials” page of the France Vacations website.
