Angelenos, if you are looking for the closest fireworks display to your home, check out MapQuest. They added new icons on their maps so that users can locate local fireworks displays and other holiday weekend events. You don’t have to be in the “directions” section of the site to find it. Type in your city (Map of Los Angeles) and look at the bar of icons on the right hand side of the map. You’ll see a gas tank (gas stations), fork and knife (restaurants) and a red, white and blue fireworks icon to name a few. Click on the fireworks button and then notice the map studded with Fourth of July events.
Tested: I clicked on the fireworks button close to Pasadena and saw that there will be a big celebration “Americafest” at the Rose Bowl. The map gave me an address, phone number and links to the event’s website plus the ability to send this info to my cell or Onstar. I clicked the Rose Bowl website and discovered that tickets are available ($13) for this big Fourth of July event that’s been going on for 83 consecutive years.
Gas prices: Don’t forget that you can also figure out how much gas will cost for the length of your trip by using the MapQuest Gas Calculator.
Caveat: The Fourth of July events shown on the maps come from When.com, input by the venues themselves, promoters or other users.

If only they had this in Canada, do they? I was searching for July 1st (Canada Day) fireworks, it was kind of annoying. I will use this for sure as I’m heading over the border for July 4th.
