Florida: Holistic hideaway at Miami’s Standard hotel

Looking for indulgence and excess that’s actually good for you? Redefining the party circuit in Miami, The Standard hotel on halcyon Belle Isle in Biscayne Bay encourages you to socialize as you cruise not South Beach bars and clubs, but among the hydrotherapy oases of its spa, which includes a Turkish hammam, sauna, aromatherapy steam room, mud lounge, sound pool, Roman waterfall hot tub and arctic plunge pool.

Deal: Book the “Holistic Hideaway” package for a two-night stay and each guest will receive continental breakfast daily and unlimited spa entry privileges, plus a complimentary pass for the clothing-optional mud lounge, a choice of an herbal bath or yoga class and a $120 spa credit to use toward any treatment or consultation. Advertised package rates for single/double occupancy of $480/$645 (excluding tax) are for medium-sized “Lush” rooms, which have private outdoor terraces facing the pool.

When I contacted the hotel, they said that I could upgrade to a large Lush room with a king-sized bed for an additional $25 per night. Either way, this package works out to be less than regular room rates on the same dates, as long as you use the spa credit, and it’s an especially good deal for solo travelers. Enter the promotional code “treat” when booking online.

When: Subject to availability from June 1st through September 30th, 2007.

Caveats: A two-night minimum stay is required on weekends. Children under 14 are not allowed on the property. Spa appointments must be booked 14 days in advance.

Why Go: If you love arty, tongue-in-cheek décor with super-mod amenities in your room, this hotel is just a short taxi ride from South Beach.

Why Not Go: If you have a low tolerance for possible hipper-than-thou attitude from your fellow guests or the staff.
