First look at Disney’s Toy Story ride

Toy Story Mania at Disney's California AdventureDisney’s California Adventure debuted a preview website for Toy Story Mania that offers a first look at the interactive dark ride’s custom-made vehicles and spring-action weapons.

Opening in summer 2008, the 3-D attraction lets riders compete against one another at a series of virtual midway games.

Behind-the-scenes installation photos posted on the website show the highly themed cars with cartoon-style guns mounted in front of each rider. The spinning cars face in two directions, seating a total of four lap-barred riders per vehicle. Riders pull a pinball-like plunger to fire the gun.

In the Hamm & Eggs game, riders throw eggs at ducks, pigs and cows (100 points), horses, dogs and crows (500 points) and a mouse running across the roof of a barn (1,000 points).

In the Bo Peep’s Baaa-loon Pop game, riders toss darts at balloon-shaped sheep, bluebirds, flowers, clouds and apple trees.

On the preview website, users play a sample version of the midway games by firing:
* Eggs at a duck (100 points)
* Baseballs at a plate (100 points)
* Pies at a black bowler hat (200 points)
* Darts at a bull’s-eye (1,000 points)
* Rings at a rocket (2,000 points)

A video interview with Disney imagineer Tom Fitzgerald explains the ride’s story line, in which visitors are “shrunk” to the size of a toy.

The preview website shows pictures of the Orlando, Fla., attraction, although Disney officials say the ride will look exactly the same in Anaheim.

You can find all the blog entries in my earlier California Adventure Reimagined series on the theme park page.

    this ride looks as cheesy as buzz light year. that ride sucks!!!

  2. Jak Says:

    Nice! Thanks!

  3. Victor Says:

    Very Nice! Thanks!

  4. Preston Says:

    This ride is a very generic dark ride that is not to the Disney name standards.

    And out of all the creative power that Imagineers can give, it is a shame that for what ever the reason may be, that we get two of the same shooting interactive dark ride concepts with the same exact theme.

    Lack of creativity and current expectations with attractions such as Spiderman at Islands of Adventure which took dark rides to a whole new level…one that Disney has yet to even take us to with their charm.

  5. Hannah Says:

  6. Hannah Says:
