Father’s Day gift for the dad who travels a lot

Fly Clear card

Is your dad a business traveler? Is your grandpa always flying around the states visiting the grandkids? If you have a dad in your life who spends a lot of time in airports (and complains about being stuck in security lines) you might surprise him with a Clear membership.

With the Clear card, Dad can zip through a separate security line at 20 airports and sports venues across the country including select terminals in San Francisco, Oakland, New York JFK, New York LaGuardia, Washington-Dulles, Washington-Reagan, Atlanta, Denver, Orlando, Boston and more. A Clear concierge is available to help you put your items in the security check bin and collect them when you’re through the metal detector.

Why for Father’s Day? Clear is throwing in a $30 Brooks Brothers gift certificate if you purchase a one-year Clear card (or longer) by June 21.

How it works: You fill out the application online, then go to an enrollment center and Clear will take images of your fingerprints, eye iris and you. Combine those with some basic personal info and two pieces of government ID such as a passport and driver’s license and you’ll have your card in just two weeks.

Tip: If your dad is loyal to one particular airline – you might check to see that he’d be able to use the Clear pass in those airports. For example – Delta flyers can use Clear at New York JFK, but American Airlines passengers can’t. Fly Clear lists which airlines are served (and at which terminals) for every airport that they serve. (Go to the Clear website, then to the airports map, click the airport, and click “airlines served” for terminal information. Note that the Clear booths have operating hours too.

Bonus: The Clear pass can also let you skip lines at the Georgia Dome for Atlanta Falcons home games, at Candlestick Park at 49ers home games and have free access to the Denver Broncos Barn for pre-game tailgate parties.

Cost: A one year membership costs $199 for electronic delivery and $210 if you’d like it delivered by mail.

I used Clear for several years when they were first getting started, and Orlando FL was one of the very few airports where Clear worked. It does NOT bypass the security, just some of the line in front of the security check. Considering that saves a few minutes at best, works only in a few airports, and costs $200 I didn’t find it to be worthwhile.
    YMMV

Ooops. Not very good advice–Clear is closing its doors, buried in a sea of debt. Hope no one followed this gift tip and lost their money.

Funny how the Dem’s bail out companies that the consumer has rejeceted but let a security company go down the drain. Uhh..union yobs…ok, national security ….uhhhmmm….no go.

  5. realist Says:

Funny how ridiculously partisan people tend to overlook the fact that the bailout plan was a Bush administration initiative..get a clue.
