I was playing poker at Treasure Island and started chatting up the guy next to me. “Where are you staying?” I asked. He hesitated. I started to guess a variety of rooms on the Strip and he finally whispered, Excalibur.
Excalibur is one of those hotels that you don’t admit staying at. The big brightly colored castle is mostly good for getting Krispy Kreme doughnuts and taking the kids to the Fantasy Faire midway. Few well-heeled Vegas goers admit to staying there, but that’s about to change. As my new friend boasted, Excalibur added 1,000 new “Widescreen” rooms complete with 42″ plasma screen, alarm clocks with iPod© inputs and pillow top mattresses. “We put four guys in there and it only cost us $115 each for the week.”
Deal: Midweek rates for the “Widescreen Rooms” are $61-$81 with weekend rates normally $141-$161 in June and July. There are occasional higher prices on the weekends, but the Excalibur rate calendar lets you see exactly how much rooms will be on any given day within a few months. Don’t miss their Stay & Play packages that start at $61/night and include “2 free admissions to the Royal Treatment Spa, $25 dining credit and $30 in casino match play.”
While it’s not advised to hide extra guests from hotels at check-in, it does happen. What’s the highest number of people you’ve snuck into a hotel room to save money?
When: The Stay & Play rates can be booked until March 2008 for travel through May 31, 2008.
