At the Dept. of Water & Power (DWP) Holiday Light Festival, now in its 13th year, green seems one underlying theme. For this one-mile showcase running Nov. 24 to Dec. 30, 2008 — undoubtedly attracting hundreds of thousands, as it has annually — the million-plus lights making up the displays will be from energy-saving LED bulbs.
Plus, you can forget mixing brake lights and exhaust with your night of holiday magic, because from Nov. 25 through Dec. 7, 2008, the festival will be pedestrian-only — devoid of cars and even shuttles. Even cooler than that, though, is this: The festival will launch with a preview Bike Night, being held on Monday evening, Nov. 24. Anyone on a cycle, from beginner to expert, is welcome to wheel on through to see the displays before they open to the pedestrian public.
If you’d prefer to inch through the festival in a vehicle, you’ll have your chance starting Dec. 8, when cars will take back the road. Free shuttles will be available nightly starting Dec. 12, and there will still be a walkway for pedestrians. You can view the displays every night from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. See the DWP Holiday Light Festival website for further details.
