Dubai, Dubai, Dubai — I’ve heard, but wasn’t ready to believe that this city could live up to the rumors of being Vegas on steroids. All I knew was that my husband dreamed of staying (and playing tennis) at the Burj Al Arab, the sail-shaped building touted as the world’s tallest hotel.
Then I got the designboom newsletter with renderings of all that’s coming to the city in the United Arab Emirates. “The Future in Dubai” gives a great overview of what’s coming for those of us who’ve been in the dark.
Come on, tell the truth, did you know that they were building a cloud-like resort city 900 feet in the sky? What about the Burj Dubai — would you dare ascend as far as you could in the world’s tallest man-made structure (1,984 feet tall to date)? With all of that jaw-dropping architecture, it might make those staying at the nearby ETA Hotel feel small and insignificant. At least it has a rooftop pool. Or, you could stay at the Armani Hotel right inside the Burj Dubai.
