Dreaming of Cancun, waking to find all-inclusive deal for adults only

Last night I had a dream about Cancun. I’ve never been there, but in my dream I was standing on a beach looking at the waves and thinking, “This is nice, but it’s not Cancun.” Cancun had become my measuring stick for beach travel. I wasn’t able to get back to sleep, so I started surfing around the Web and found a new all-adults, all-inclusive resort 15 miles south of Cancun on the Riviera Maya, where I wish my dream would pick up again.

Deal: Secrets Silversands Riviera Cancun is a new hotel (August) that has a grand-opening special on BookIt.com. Flight + 3 nights hotel (out of San Diego) plus all meals and drinks, 24-hour room service and more for $699, per person. [Note: the "up to $100 spa credit" mentioned in the deal is good for longer stays]

When: Now through Dec. 24, 2008

Tested: Midweek dates had the cheapest fares, but I found one long weekend in December (Dec. 11-14) where you could get the $699 deal. Once I moved along with the reservation, the fee came to $698 per person for a garden view room. A Junior Suite Spa with a pool view was $734 per person, so I chose that to continue testing the deal. After round-trip transfers for two from the airport, the total price came to $1,831 including tax. I checked in with Kayak to see how much flights would be for these dates and the cost of the flights alone were $912 for two people, including tax.

Tip: Are you wondering if those sea kayaks or drinks at the swim-up pool bar are included? Why, yes they are.
