Want to help hurricane victims in the South and East Coast and rack up frequent-flier miles too? American Airlines is awarding 250 bonus AAdvantage miles for donations of at least $50 and 500 miles for donations of $100 or more to the American Red Cross.
To take advantage of this offer, good through Sept. 30, you need to visit a special website and follow the directions.
Frequent fliers at several other airlines can donate miles and/or money to the American Red Cross, although they may not always get bonus miles for doing so.
The charitable group, which uses the miles to fly volunteers and staff to disaster areas, posts a list of participating airlines.
Update: A couple of links on the Red Cross site had a glitch or two. For US Airways’ donation program, try this link. For Northwest Airlines, try this link.
