The Disneyland Resort and Alaska Airlines continue to celebrate Disney’s “Year of a Million Dreams” with another season of deals. They had the “Kids Fly Free” promotion last spring, but this year your opportunity to save runs even longer. Trips longer than three days can get a 5-Day Disneyland Resort Park Hopper Bonus Ticket for the price of three days included in their package. If you have friends or family who are living outside California but still on the West Coast, pass this deal on to them.
Deals: Kids ages 2 to 11 can fly on Alaska Airlines free from major West Coast cities (within Alaska, California, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Oregon and Washington) when they book a Southern California vacation package. As you would expect, the deal is only good when the child is flying with an adult paying for a round-trip ticket. To add incentive (and maybe complication during the booking process), Disney also has the “Get a Five-Day Package with Tickets for the Price of a Three-Day Package” to consider.
Alaska Airlines has sample packages online. The cheapest one displayed, Seattle (SEA) to Long Beach (LGB), showed a base price of $699 for one child and one adult. It included round-trip air for both, four nights accommodations (for the price of three), two 5-Day Disneyland Resort Park Hopper Bonus Tickets for the price of three days and 1,500 Alaska miles. I played around with some dates online and found a different price every time I tested a different date. To save yourself a headache, I recommend calling either Alaska Airlines or the Walt Disney Travel Co. for personal service to help you create the best deal that fits your family.
Tip: To save money, fly on off-peak days (Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday). Also note the fare rules and restrictions, as there are several blackout periods for hotel dates.
To gauge whether or not you’re getting a deal, here are the a la carte prices for items within the deal:
Two round-trip tickets for one adult and a child — usually $150 to $200 each
Four-night hotel stay at Marriott’s Anaheim Fairfield Inn — usually $120 per night
Two five-day Disneyland Parkhopper tickets — usually $165 to $195 each
When: The “Kids Fly Free” offer is for arrivals Jan. 7 through June 25, 2008, but travel must be booked by March 19 and completed by June 27, 2008
