Disney’s Tomorrowland: Spend more, wait less w/ FastPass

(Joerger used a technique known as forced perspective, which can make objects appear smaller or larger, in his three-dimensional rendering of Disneyland's Main Street, left.)Disney imagines a future where the more you spend on your hotel room, dinner and souvenirs, the less you wait in line for your favorite rides.

The preferential treatment came to light in a patent filed for FastPass, the theme park giant’s ride reservation system that allows visitors to return at a designated time and enter via a shorter line.

Using a cellphone, according to the patent, visitors could be:
> Issued a FastPass
> Reminded of a reservation time
> Alerted if a ride breaks down
> Tracked inside the park

Disney hotels guests would have the added luxury of booking their FastPass reservations the night before visiting the park via their room’s digital television.

Jim Hill Media, a Disney news site, broke the story that was picked up by the Orlando Sentinel.

Is Mickey being elitist, intrusive or accommodating? You decide.
