Derrie-Air: An airline that charges by the pound? No…

Derrie-Air

I bet some of you, especially those who have been squished in a middle seat with a heavyset person on each side, wish that an airline that charged by the pound for every traveler plus luggage would become a reality. Alas, Derrie-Air, the airline that announced “The more you weigh, the more you pay” in Philadelphia newspapers last week is just an ad stunt.

The airline’s deals suggested that a flight from Philadelphia to Los Angeles would cost $2.25 per pound, but the website made no beef in hiding the truth. At the bottom of the website was a statement that read, “The Derrie-Air campaign is a fictitious advertising campaign created by Philadelphia Media Holdings to test the results of advertising in our print and online products and to stimulate discussion on a timely environmental topic of interest to all citizens.”

You can still check it out at: Fly Derrie-Air and images of the airline ads are online in an article at Philly.com “Phila. newspapers run ads about fake airline Derrie-Air.”
