Delta getting sued for ruining a trip to Argentina; Donate miles to China disaster relief efforts

Santa Monica Pier during a ceremonial re-lighting of the new ferris wheel

Good morning travelers! Are you starting to think about the weekend? One idea is to try the new Santa Monica Pier Ferris wheel that opened last night. Here’s a time-lapse video of the old one coming down and the new wheel being built.

Hotel News | How about that random bear that wanted to go swimming at the Hard Rock Hotel in Orlando, Florida? The hotel was not evacuated but the guests were told not to go looking for it.

Frequent Flier Miles | Northwest Airlines has put together two ways for travelers to donate to the China earthquake disaster relief efforts. You can give miles (WorldPerks miles) to the American Red Cross. Transfer any amount and NWA will match that amount up to 1 million miles. Call (800) 327-2881. You can also donate money ($50 or more) to the NWA partner AirCares and receive 500 WorldPerks Bonus Miles. Contact: NWA AirCares Donate page.

Airline News | Delta is being sued by a New York lawyer for nearly $1 million after ruining a trip to South America. Sure the family was trying to go to their 80-year-old mother’s birthday celebration, but $275,000 seems like a lot for emotional distress. Have you ever been delayed, separated from your luggage, not allowed to get on a connecting flight and had to make other arrangements? I bet your compensation didn’t amount to much.
