Fall is a great time to visit Death Valley National Park, as temperatures are now bearable (below the 100-degree mark anyway) yet the park sees few crowds at this time of year. And if you’re a golfer, there’s extra incentive to visit, with Furnace Creek Inn & Ranch Resort’s accommodations-and-golf package. This is your chance to tee off at 214 feet below sea level, on the world’s lowest course.
Deal: The “Stay & Play” package at this Xanterra resort offers the following for rates starting at $199 per night (pre-tax and based on double occupancy): accommodations, unlimited golf for a day at the Furnace Creek Golf Course, a golf cart and club storage. Prices vary depending on dates booked, preferred type of accommodation and location of room, whether at the 66-room inn or the less-pricey, more family-friendly ranch adjacent to the golf course. Now through Nov. 19, for instance, ranch rooms start at $223, but you can find the $199 deal for stays at the ranch from Nov. 23 through Dec. 18. Use promotion code “GOLF.”
When: Valid for stays, at different price levels, now through April 19, 2009.
Note: Wondering how environmentally green a Mojave-desert green can be? I did, and I was interested to learn that the Furnace Creek Golf Course has received designation as a “Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary” from Audubon International’s Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary System (ACSS). The program, according to the ACSS website, “helps golf courses protect our environment and preserve the natural heritage of the game of golf.” To be certified, courses must be able to demonstrate a high level of environmental care in areas such as planning, wildlife management and water conservation.
