Now’s the calm before the possible summer-tourism storm in the Aloha State, and there are some good hotel deals out there. I thought I’d see what offers are going on in and near Poipu Beach in Kauai, as I just learned that it ranks No. 4 in TripAdvisor’s Top 25 U.S. destinations (this list is part of the site’s just-released 2008 Travelers’ Choice Awards).
It turns out that in May, the Poipu area has rooms packed with perks and discounts. Here are a few appealing options that I’ve come across:
Sheraton Kauai Resort: If Mother’s Day is sneaking up on you, you can buy a little more time and really knock Mom’s socks off with this resort’s “Mommy and Me” package, good for visits through May 31, 2008. Book a garden room at $259 per night (pre-tax), and receive a free upgrade to a partial ocean-view room as well as a two-for-one coupon to the resort’s evening lū’au dinner (usually $75 per person). The promotional code is “MOTHER.” Contact: Sheraton Kauai Resort, (866) 716-8140
Grand Hyatt Resort: This hotel is offering discounts of up to 25% off of their best-available room rates for visits between now and May 17, 2008. Book via the “special offers” page if reserving online; if calling it in, ask for the “Kokua Rates.” A sample fare: A garden-view room normally priced at $428 (pre-tax) can be had for $360 on May 15, 2008. Contact: Grand Hyatt Resort, (800) 492-8804
Less resort-y, less pricey options: Some of the many more-independent venues in the area might not be offering May specials per se, but there is some good value to be had for those preferring to stay off the resort track. Check out the Brennecke’s Beach Bungalow vacation home or the Poipu Plantation Resort cottages. Contact: Brennecke’s Beach Bungalow, (888) 393-4646; Poipu Plantation Resort, (800) 634-0263
