De-stress at ‘grown-up camp’ for women

Camp GetAway, San Bernardino Mountains

When Los Angeles Times readers responded enthusiastically to the recent “Tell Us Where to Go” challenge, one suggestion that particularly caught my eye was Camp GetAway. Diane Scalia described this retreat in Angelus Oaks in the San Bernardino Mountains as follows: “Grown-up camp for women — no men, no chores, no stress, no children, no to-do lists, no carpools, no demands, just a lot of fun.”

I love my man and my child, and I don’t mind the chores too much. But a couple of days completely away with fun women in the mountains sounds rather, well, heavenly. Can I leave my cellphone behind too?

During a weekend retreat at Camp GetAway, campers can do as little or as much as they like. Options include outdoor activities like hiking, archery and canoeing; spa treatments; arts and crafts such as soap-making and mosaics; dancing; and yoga. There’s a movie house on-site for watching “chick flicks,” and fireside time is scheduled in the evenings. Tempted? The next weekend is just around the corner.

When: Sept. 19-21, 2008

Cost: $325 (including tax); register online. This includes two nights accommodations, five meals and activities/seminars. Spa treatments are extra, and there may be fees charged for arts and crafts materials.

Camp GetAway is a fabulous experience for everyone. Last camp we had 15 Military wives join us for a relaxed and fun filled weekend. Come to camp to meet interesting and inspirational women from all walks of life. Mothers, sisters, grandmothers enjoy a weekend together in this beautiful wooded setting.
