Cruise travel: Norwegian Cruise Line's 1-day sale is today

Norwegian Cruise Line Mexican Riviera

Have you been thinking about booking a cruise? Norwegian Cruise Line’s “One-Day Sale” might be all the inspiration you need to get from the dreaming stage to the handing over your credit card stage. Get up to $400 off per person plus the possibility of an eight-category upgrade at the time of booking. Now, where do you want to go: Alaska, Mexico, the Caribbean, Bermuda or Europe?

Deal: You can find the sale prices on the NCL website highlighted in pale yellow. First click on your destination, then select a cruise by length of trip or change the way the results are sorted to suit your needs.

I tested an ocean-view room for a seven-day Mexican Riviera cruise (Los Angeles; Cabo San Lucas; Mazatlan; Puerto Vallarta). It was hard for me to figure out where the sale came in so I called NCL and found out that the highlighted dates already feature the sale price. The cruise I wanted on Oct. 11, 2008, came to $669 (including taxes and the fuel supplement charge — $9 per person per day).

The representative told me that I was saving $240 and that if I booked then I’d also get upgraded from deck 4 to deck 5 with a choice of category D, E or F. Then she showed me that prices for the same cruise varied by date. If I were to take the same cruise on Nov. 22, the starting sale price for an ocean-view room would be $749 before taxes and fees.

When: Today only: June 12, 2008

[UPDATE: The sale was extended until midnight Friday, June 13, 2008]

Contact: Norwegian Cruise Lines, (866) 234-0292
