At least two airlines will allow passengers heading to or from Mexico City to reschedule or reroute their itineraries without penalties because of the swine flu outbreak that has killed up to 60 people, according to online notices at the airlines’ websites.
Schools were closed in Mexico City today. In Mexico state, museums, theaters and cinemas will be closed for the weekend, and Mexico City Mayor Marcelo Ebrard canceled public events, including concerts and sports matches, according to Times staff writers Tracy Wilkinson and Thomas H. Maugh II.
U.S. Airways passengers traveling to, from or through Mexico City between Friday (April 24) and April 30 may change their itinerary “up to seven days before or after the scheduled origination date” without change fees.”
Also, passengers can use their value of their tickets toward the purchase of tickets to a different destination, provided they start traveling within seven days of their original travel date. For details, go to U.S. Airways’ web page Mexico City Influenza Outbreak.
Continental Airlines is allowing customers to reroute or reschedule their flights to or from Mexico City as well as the cities of Puebla and Toluca.
Tickets must have an original travel date between Friday and April 28. Some (but not all) fees will be waived depending on whether your rescheduled travel starts before or after May 8. Check Continental’s Important Notices web page for details.

This outbreak is related to our history of wrong priorities. Less spending on warfare, more on health care, and prevention.
Our borders are mostly in danger more from this than illegal immigration.
And “free trade” has also resulted in the transmission of toxins, pollutants, and disease.
When will we concentrate on the important stuff?
April 25th, 2009 at 3:56 pm
are mexican nationals still crossing our borders freely?

Check out the chick in the middle. Mask is on but not over her nose. Do we think Mexico can help stop this from coming our way when they can’t stop the illegals from over running us and their citizens can’t even put a mask on right. Maybe we should be more aggressive on this side of the border with both illegals and the flu.

@linda
What can Mexico do?
What can the US do if it can’t even find Osama, it can’t win a war in an impoverished country in both iraq and afghanistan and can’t keep it’s congress from giving away billions of your tax payer money to private bankers and private business. I think your problems run deeper than illegal immigrants although your economy and you as well depends on them.
You just got raped and didn’t even bat an eye.

Bevan it’s because we have not focused on our borders that we are subject to a more serious out break of SF. IF we would have been securing our borders we would not have most of the cases of SF that we have now. Do you think the majority those with SF are tourists?

They never looked for Osama, and never will. They don’t want to find him, genius. The wars in Iraq and Afghanistan aren’t to “win”, they’re money makers, and they want them to last as long as possible. It’s ridiculous that folks like you believe the US couldn’t stomp them into oblivion if it wanted.
I can make my own tacos, wash my own toilet and pick my veggies, thank you. 30 million illegals contribute nothing but a deficit while we provide their healthcare for FREE (millions of Americans don’t have healthcare… and we provide it for them!?), education for FREE, housing either free or subsidized… etc.
You’re an idiot. Period.

Wow. I look at “those people” and for the life of me can only see human beings. Ten TOURISTS just brought SF back to New Zealand. The spread of SF has nothing to do with illegal immigration. It is endemic to US swine populations also and could just as easily have started here in the US. A virulent virus doesn’t “care” what nationality you are or where the border stops, it will make you sick and possibly kill you whether you are white, black or brown. Get real and get ready. This could be the next major killer of millions of human beings EVERYWHERE. Somehow illegal immigration pales in comparison.

Looks like the nativists are out in force tonight.
Teemail: As a matter of fact ALL the cases are people who have been to Mexico for a vacation or have been in contact with someone who just returned.
Linda, al and bevan: Any undocumented Mexican that crosses into the US will be in transit across the desert for so long that either they will get sick there or by recovered by the time they hit “civilization.”
Your responses are typical of the no nothings that characterize the right. You get fixated on one little thing and can’t see that it doesn’t always work. There is a medical term for this psychological disease that escapes me at the moment, but it is quite common among bigots.

I think this hhas become an exagerated pshycosis and all the media has helped to that. I´m a mexican girl and I´m completely healthy and so all the people I know, what most of people don´t care is this seems to be a comercial boicot, because many comercial walls have been imposed against my country, since cancel all the flights and vacation to stop our exportations, and all this is going to hit our economy pretty bad, like we weren´t have a global economic crisis and now this?
