Colorado ski dream: Want to stay really close to the lifts?

After a $7-million renovation, Colorado’s Osprey at Beaver Creek — the ski resort that claims to be the closest resort to a chairlift in North America — reopened Saturday.

The conditions at Beaver Creek right now are prime, with nearly 50 inches of snow in the last seven days. Beaver Creek Resort operators are calling it the best snow month in eight years.

The Colorado resort, previously called the Inn at Beaver Creek and about 15 minutes from Vail, closed last spring to undergo a multimillion-dollar face lift.

Operated by RockResorts, a subsidiary of Vail Resorts, the Osprey is about three yards from the chairlifts at Beaver Creek — something that wouldn’t be allowed to be built today. (Building codes have changed, but the Osprey was grandfathered in, according to a spokeswoman at the resort.)

A press release for the newly renovated resort describes the 45-room lodge as having “ultra-swank decor” and “über-hip services.”

Does that mean expensive? Rooms start at $245 per night. For that you get flat-screen TVs, DVD players and MP3 docking stations, among other amenities.

But with the chairlift right outside the door, who has time to watch DVDs?
