On Sunday I drove from L.A. to Vegas and thought I could get ahead of the gas game by filling up my tank outside of L.A. I got as far as Hesperia, California, before running on fumes and still paid L.A. prices — $4.59 per gallon for regular unleaded. You might not think anything of it, but the average price for the same kind of gas in Vegas is still $4.25 per gallon. Why did I gamble? I suppose because I was too lazy to look online for the cheapest stations. To quote Jack Nicholson from the movie “As Good as It Gets” — “Don’t you be like me!”
Here are four gas websites that will help you find the lowest priced gas in your neighborhood and a recent Los Angeles Times Bottleneck post that targets myths about saving at the pump.
AAA Daily Fuel Gauge Report | I go here first to find the definitive national average (today it is $4.08). Then I use the “Select a Market” tool to find out what the local average is. (Today, it is $4.62 for regular in Los Angeles–Long Beach.)
Gas Buddy | This website topped the list of Time magazine’s “50 Best Websites 2008.” I like Gas Buddy because it maps out gas stations by price. Just type in your ZIP Code and see what stations are the cheapest around your neighborhood. If websites are old news to you, get gas prices sent to your mobile phone. This is a grassroots organization and it is currently looking for gas spotters to help check prices.
MSN Autos Gas Prices | I don’t think MSN Autos is as comprehensive as Gas Buddy, but I like its additional tips and info. If you’re thinking about trading in your gas-guzzling SUV, check out the “Top 5 Fuel Efficient Vehicles” and get Green Driving Tips.
Mapquest Gas Prices | In addition to finding you local gas prices, Mapquest also has a Gas Price Calculator to help you figure out how much your road trip will cost you at the pump.

It’s time to face the facts!
Marijuana can produce several different kinds of fuel. In the 1800’s and 1900’s hempseed oil was the primary source of fuel in the United States and was commonly used for lamps and other oil energy needs. The diesel engine was originally designed to run on marijuana oil because Rudolf Diesel assumed that it would be the most common fuel. Marijuana is also the most efficient plant for the production of methanol. It is estimated that, in one form or another, marijuana grown in the United States could provide up to ninety percent of the nation’s entire energy needs.

Hemp is 4 times more efficient than corn as biofuel. Hemp pellets can be used to produce clean electricity.
… so powerful it could replace every type of fossil fuel energy product (oil, coal, and natural gas).
… This plant is the earth’s number one biomass resource or fastest growing annual plant for agriculture on a worldwide basis, producing up to 14 tons per acre. This is the only biomass source available that is capable of producing all the energy needs of the U.S. and the world…
Hemp will produce cleaner air and reduce greenhouse gases. When biomass fuel burns, it produces CO2 (the major cause of the greenhouse effect), the same as fossil fuel; but during the growth cycle of the plant, photosynthesis removes as much CO2 from the air as burning the biomass adds, so hemp actually cleans the atmosphere. After the first cycle there is no further loading to the atmosphere…
