Valentine’s Day is just a month away, and this year, it falls on a Saturday. That could be good extra motivation, I’d say, to treat your loved one to a romantic weekend out of town … a short and sweet island vacation, perhaps?
Surprise him or her with a jaunt to Catalina, just across the pond from L.A. The following Avalon hotels are offering some tempting packages:
Hotel Villa Portofino
This oceanfront hotel’s “Sweet Deal” package offers, for rates starting at $632 per couple (including tax), a room for two nights, transportation to the island via the Catalina Express, taxi transfers, tickets for the City Passport tour and the Glass Bottom Boat tour, continental breakfast, chocolate and champagne.
Though it seems appropriate to take advantage of this offer on the night of Feb. 14, the deal is actually valid anytime. Note that a two-night minimum is required on weekends, though if you were to book a stay on a non-holiday, midweek day, you can book this special for one night only, for rates starting at $335.

Pavilion Lodge
The “Valentine’s Package” here costs $563 per couple (including tax) and gives you two nights accommodations, round-trip transportation to the island aboard the Catalina Express, a Valentine’s night dinner at the Catalina Country Club, admission to the Catalina Island Valentine’s Sweetheart Dance and even a wedding vow renewal ceremony, if you like.

Avalon Hotel
Though this hotel isn’t advertising any dedicated V-day weekend packages, its “Decadence Package” is perfect for a cozy weekend with your sweetie. Included in the package, for $795 per couple (pre-tax), are one night’s accommodations in a balcony room accented with gourmet chocolates, rose petals and champagne, and a couple’s 50-minute massage. Transportation to and from Avalon via the Catalina Express is also included.
