Enjoy Catalina Island in the company of environmentally minded singles with “Fun in the Sun 2009,” put on by the 20s & 30s Singles Section of Sierra Club’s Angeles Chapter. The fall weekend, at Camp Emerald Bay in the island’s northern end, promises a fun itinerary that includes snorkeling, hiking, swimming, volleyball and even a little limbo.
Last year’s trip was a success, according to Ron Dumash, a Sierra Club volunteer trip organizer. “The group had a great time with all the water activities and team activities; the dance lessons were really great, and everyone participated.”
“We even had a strong karaoke contingent,” he added. Other highlights included afternoon kayak races and a limbo contest.
You don’t have to be a Sierra Club member to participate (members get a discount, however; see below). You do have to be at least 21 years old.
When: Sept. 25-27, 2009. Arrival is by boat from either Marina del Rey or Long Beach.
Cost: For platform-tent accommodations, the trip costs $225 per person for organization members, $250 for non-members. Or you can opt for a cabin, which costs $245 for members, $270 for non-members.
Among items included in the fee: round-trip boat ride; camp and landing fees; meals from Friday evening until Sunday lunch; use of a kayak; guided hikes and other activities; dance instruction; hot showers. Scuba diving is an option but not included in the price.
Tip: Not a Sierra Club member? Join online first for as little as $15, and you’ll get $25 off of your weekend-trip fee, discounts on merchandise and other perks.
