Powder hounds rejoice!
Whistler Mountain is set to open Wednesday (Nov. 26) with neighboring Blackcomb Mountain following on Thanksgiving Day.
Whistler Blackcomb is the ski venue for the 2010 winter Olympics and, in preparation for the event, a new feature will be unveiled on Dec. 12: a peak-to-peak gondola that will carry skiers and snowboarders across a 2.7-mile span from one summit to the other.
The Whistler Blackcomb resort is a two-hour drive north of Vancouver, Canada, up the scenic Sea to Sky Highway.
At the resort, skiers and snowboarders enjoy a combined 8,171 acres of skiable terrain, over 16 alpine bowls, three glaciers and 200 trails.
Recent snowfall: There’s been no new snow in the last two days, but the mountain has a 21-inch base. A storm is expected to move into the area Wednesday and may drop an additional 4 inches or so of powder.
To encourage skiers and snowboarders to try the new gondola, the resort is offering a “Peak2Peak” package that includes lift tickets (with access to the gondola) for two days and accommodations for two nights for about $91 (subject to exchange rates) per person per night, pre-tax. The deal ends Dec. 19.
