Canada: Wake up in these 25% off hotels

Wake Up to Canada promotion

Open up those peepers and check out our neighbors up north.

GreatCanadianHotels.com is offering 25% off the lowest available rates on more than 25 hotels across the grand expanse that is Canada. If the rates even at a discount don’t sit well with your wallet, then try for a trip that’s 100% off: The same website is holding a contest (more info at bottom of post).

Deal: Nearly all of Canada’s provinces are home to hotels included in the “Wake Up to Canada” promotion, though the most represented province is Alberta, with nine hotels. That’s good news if you’re thinking about a trip to Calgary, or perhaps Banff National Park. You can glance at the hotels by province to see the range of rates being offered.

When: Book now for stays through Sept. 1, 2008.

Tested: You’ll be getting good discounts, given that this period is smack dab in high season, but be aware that rates might not be quite as good as advertised on the promotional page. The least-expensive posted rates are with Best Western Charlottetown, from $67 per night according to the promotional page, but the lowest I was able to find for this hotel in the reservation system was $84 (pre-tax) per night, with other summer dates starting at $109 (pre-tax) or more. Note that all prices quoted here are in Canadian dollars, though our dollar and theirs are about on par at present.

Contest: Fill out a brief online survey to enter a drawing to win two nights at a hotel of your choice on GreatCanadianHotels.com. One of these packages will be awarded monthly during the promotion, with drawings on June 15, July 15 and Aug. 15, 2008. On Sept. 5, 2008, the grand prize winner will be drawn, and that lucky person will receive five nights at any listed hotel as well as airfare.

I read the “eligibility conditions.” USA citizens may not apply; entrants must be “majority age” Canadian citizens.
