Canada: The Fairmont’s summer sale

L.A. Times British Columbia photo As the mercury rises in L.A., the idea of traveling north to Canada’s cooler climes looks very tempting. Fairmont Hotels & Resorts around Canada are slashing their room rates for this summer. Imagine yourself kicking back in the mountains at The Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise or ambling alongside the waterfront by The Fairmont Empress in Victoria on Vancouver Island. There now, don’t you feel cooler already?

Deal: For Western Canada, the Fairmont’s “Only One Way Summer Rates” start at US$145 per double per night, excluding taxes. Enter the promotional code PROWA1 when booking online. American Express cardholders who book before June 30, 2007, using promotional code PROWX1 get a $50 food and beverage hotel credit, too.

I found it easy to score this promo rate at several different Fairmont properties in Canada on a variety of dates – even July 4th (an advantage of traveling to Canada on a U.S. holiday). The savings per night averaged $70 or more per room.

When: Valid from May 1st through September 3rd, 2007.

Caveat: The American Express promotional rates typically cost an extra $36 per night, making the $50 food and beverage credit a deal only if you use the entire amount.

Why Go: Because the dog days of summer in L.A. are just too hot.

Why Not Go: If you can’t find a good discount airfare for the dates you want to visit Canada.
