Dinosaurs and poppies? That is so 200 million years ago. [Click the logo to open a photo gallery in a new window.]
But you could check out the dinos this weekend at Prehistoric Poppy Land, a featured display at the 2008 California Poppy Festival in Lancaster.
Other highlights of the two-day festival that starts Saturday include arts and crafts, reptiles and other animal displays, art shows, the Jest in Time Circus and more.
Don’t confuse this festival with the Antelope Valley California Poppy Reserve nearby, where the hillsides are blindingly orange with poppy blooms that share the hillsides with other wildflowers. Incidentally, the poppies, which have been quite profuse this year, will likely stick around only another week or so.

The festival is held at Lancaster City Park, next to Highway 14 between Avenues K and L, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day. Tickets: $8 for ages 13 to 61; $5 for ages 6 to 12; children under 5 free.

We were there last week and it was just beautiful! We even made a video about our trip and made some poppy seed crackers to finish off the poppy celebration!
