Cabo San Lucas, Mexico: summer deal at all-inclusive Riu

Riu Santa Fe, Cabo San Lucas, Mexico

A couple of miles from downtown Cabo San Lucas, Riu Santa Fe Hotel, which opened in November 2007, is an all-inclusive mega-resort with 902 rooms, multiple restaurants, bars, a dance club, pool, tennis courts, activities and more. The resort’s summer sale makes it a good bet for good value, especially for families with kids.

Deal: For bookings of three or more nights, the resort is offering an all-inclusive room-and-food package starting at $249 per person (pre-tax and based on double occupancy). Children 12 years of age and younger eat and stay free with two paying adults.

When: Now through Aug. 21, 2008.

Why Go: It gets mixed, but mostly decent, reviews from TripAdvisor travelers. The location, the well-looked-after grounds and friendly service have received thumbs-ups. If you like a resort buzzing with options for activity, you and your family should have some good times here.

Why Not: You travel for food. Some of those TripAdvisor reviews rate the pickings as so-so at best. Also, if you like your accommodations cozy and intimate, this is not your place.

Connect/disconnect: The rooms are not equipped with Internet access. However, you can pick up Wi-Fi in the hotel’s sports bar at the cost of $3 per 15 minutes, or $8 per hour, or $15 for a whole day. Multi-day rates are available too.
