Future home of the 2010 Winter Olympic Games, the ski resort of Whistler has just announced details of an ambitious new construction project, the “Peak to Peak” gondola. When it opens in December 2008, the record-breaking ski lift will be the world’s longest free-span lift (nearly 2 miles long), taking only 11 minutes to connect the peaks of Whistler and Blackcomb Mountains.
Deal: If you book a Whistler ski vacation package, which includes accommodations and lift tickets, now for a trip this winter, you can save a bundle of money. The Tourism Whistler site is advertising five-night vacation packages from $420.06 per person (double occupancy, excluding taxes and fees). The four-day lift ticket alone is worth $239.35 per adult, which means you’re paying only $72.28 per night for your room. That’s 25–40% off the cheapest stand-alone resort room rates currently available online.
What do you think of Whistler? Is it truly excellent, or overrated? Give us your opinion.
When: To get the early-bird discount rates, book your vacation package by November 15, 2007. Whistler’s winter season runs from November 23, 2007 through April 20, 2008, weather permitting.
Caveat: The special discount rates are only available by calling Tourism Whistler directly. Vacation package quotes are also available via e-mail.
Why Go: Hit the slopes at this top-notch mountain resort before it becomes more popular after the 2010 Olympics.
Why Not: Getting to British Columbia may cost you more in airfare than say, a trip to Utah or Colorado.
Connect/Disconnect: Many of the resort lodgings in Whistler provide high-speed Internet access for guests. Inquire when booking about daily surcharges, whether the connection is wired/wireless, etc.

[...] It may not yet be ski season in North America’s top ski destination, but Whistler Blackcomb offers a scenic mountain getaway all year-round. The future site of the 2010 Olympic Winter Games, Whistler is surrounded by glaciers, alpine meadows, and awe-inspiring mountain peaks. Experience the pinnacle of luxury at one of Canada’s most exclusive mountain resorts with a special promotion available for a limited time. Until November 21, 2007 (a day shy of opening day on the slopes), get a third night free when you book a two-night stay. Rates start as low as CAD 245 per night. At the Four Seasons, hit the well-equipped gym and take advantage of the complimentary Virtual Workouts downloaded to an iPod. After your work-out, relax in the eucalyptus steam room. Or discover the free-form outdoor pool and whirlpools, reminiscent of a glacier spring. Dine by the fireside at Fifty Two 80 Bistro and take in some impressive views of the local mountains. And during your stay, be sure to spend some time at the superb spa, where the luxurious treatments use only all-natural ingredients: seaweed, fresh fruits, wild flowers, pure essential oils and clay harvested from British Columbia’s glacial lakes.
