This week begins the second Bathroom Blogfest, an event started last year by Stephanie Weaver and Susan Abbot. Their goal is to increase awareness about a customer’s experience, and the importance of a great bathroom.
They’ve got 22 bloggers so far and since I’m unable to volunteer this year I thought that I’d bring up the topic of bathrooms around the world. Indeed the quality of the bathroom, and how to find one in a foreign country — let alone how to use it — is frequently on the forefront of a traveler’s mind.
Here are some great global bathroom resources:
The Golden Plungers [Bathroom Diaries]
Amazing Bathrooms [Concierge.com]
Hotel Throne Blog [Hotels by the City]
America’s Best Bathrooms [AOL Money & Finance]
How to S! Around the World [Travelers’ Tales]
Toilets Around the World [DarkCreek]
Weird Toilets and Sinks from Around the World [Jimmyr]
Have you ever encountered a great bathroom while traveling?

The Nevada State House in Carson City. Baronial splendor, and the cop on duty doesn’t mind if you’re only there on a personal errand.

During my 1989 trip to Paris I visited the public bathroom of The Ritz Carlton; there is no comparison anywhere that I have seen.

I strongly suggest that everyone avoid the bathrooms at the Minneapolis airport.

Nobody talked about the Madonna Inn in San Luis Obispo. The urinal is a rock waterfall. Everything is over the top and each motel room is different with theme everything.

That’s too funny there’s a bathroom article here in the LA times. I’m a singer/songwriter who just played a gig where the coffeehouse venue I was at is listed on a website called safe2pee, ran by an outfit called the Bathroom Liberation Front. I told the owners of the coffeehouse, they had no clue. Wonder if those other places list here know of their unique position in the potty pantheon lol?

The most scenic I have ever seen, was in Anzo Borreago State Park. The facility consisted of a very nice open air rock walled “building”. While attending to duty, one could enjoy beautiful views of the sky and surrounding mountains. Also, this was a flush toilet, which for a state park is a big bonus!
