Travelers who had tickets for sporting events in Texas, take note: Hurricane Ike is throwing a weekend of sports action into turmoil, including two Major League Baseball games, a full slate of college football contests and one NFL game.
The first two games of this weekend’s series between the Chicago Cubs and Houston Astros in Houston have been postponed, and Sunday’s series finale is also in doubt.
In pro football, the Houston Texans moved their game to Monday night, setting up a double-header of Texas teams. The Dallas Cowboys visit Philadelphia that same evening.
The biggest college football game to be affected by the storm: Arkansas at No. 8 Texas, which has been rescheduled to Sept. 27. The Washington State-Baylor games was moved up to Friday night. And Saturday’s contest between Stanford and TCU in Ft. Worth was moved up from 7 p.m. to noon local time and officials were keeping a close eye on conditions as the storm moved ashore Friday.
The SMU-Texas Tech game in Lubbock was set to go on as scheduled, despite 10 inches of rain in the area.
Other college games affected by the storm:
-Air Force at Houston: moved to Dallas.
-Sam Houston State vs. Prairie View A&M: canceled.
-Texas A&M-Kingsville vs. Central Oklahoma: moved to Edmond, Okla.
