Australia: Sydney & Melbourne super sale

GoToday.com Australia photoUsually, a round-trip flight from our west coast to Australia for around $1000 is a good deal. A flight Down Under, plus 5 hotel nights (including taxes) for $1200 is a cracking deal.

Deal:
Go-Today.com is offering Australia packages to Sydney and Melbourne starting at $999 per person May through August. The catch is that you must fly on specific dates. ($100 more buys you a bit more flexibility). Hotel taxes are included, but flight taxes and fees are about $150 extra per person. I attempted to book a trip to Melbourne leaving May 22 and returning June 3. The cost came to $1,419 after all was said and done. It would’ve been $1,209 each if I was taking my partner.

Why Go: Because the flight alone on the exact same day with Qantas would be $1,136.99.

Why Not:
If you’re picky about hotels and don’t like the ones they offer, or are not interested in spending a little bit more dosh on upgrades, this might not be for you.

Caution:
Check the weather reports before you go. Our summer is their winter. While it won’t necessarily be snowing, you still want to make sure you’re OK with the temperatures before you book your ticket.

More…Details: Note that they differentiate prices between solo travelers and those that can book double occupancy. It was just a few hundred dollars difference per person, but might still be a shock if you weren’t expecting it. Also, flights out of Burbank, Orange County and San Diego cost only $75 more. Other departure cities were available for additional charges.
