Happy holiday, ho, ho, hum. There were few surprises last night on Leg 7 of “The Amazing Race 12″ on CBS, one of only two non-elimination legs this season.
The episode’s drama focused on relationship deteriorations foreshadowed by producers’ edits in previous legs. Here are a few notable quotes from the episode that saw Nick and Don win and Kynt and Vyxsin come in last (fifth) place:
• Jen to Nate: “Once we get riled up, we can’t stop.” “Nate, you’ve got a teammate back here.” [on their fiery relationship dynamics]
• Christina, Ron, about Kynt and Vyxsin: “It’s like a performance every time I see them.” Ron replied, “Yes, it’s like kabuki theater.” [watching them ask for help at the ferry terminal]

• Don to grandson Nick: “I never thought at my age that I’d be getting a tattoo.” [on their fast-forward task and reward, in possibly the cleanest mom-and-pop tat studio ever seen]
• TK to Rachel: “I don’t have pockets!” [while frantically searching their rental car for a lost clue card]
• Vyxsin to Kynt: “It’s been 30 hours since I slept!” [after she "started to get a sinking feeling" that they were on the road to being eliminated]
• Kynt to Vyxsin: “Stop the car, you’re not capable! You can’t be throwing your little temper tantrums.” [on them "bickering, and not in a cute way."]
Other notable developments included Nick and Don electing to use a fast forward, after several other teams opted not to; a flat tire for TK and Rachel; Vyxsin and Kynt breaking their rental vehicle; and Phil’s announcement, during the mat chat, of a new “Amazing Race” feature: the Speed Bump, which means Vyxsin and Kynt will have to accomplish an extra task during the next leg.
