The seventh lap of “The Amazing Race” found the six remaining teams traveling from new Delhi to old Delhi. Contestants were sent to a park in a sprawling apartment complex to find their clue for the Roadblock. The teams were sent to another park area that was in the midst of a truly strange — and colorful — holiday festival in which the participants throw powdered dye and water on one another. One member of the team had to race to one of three ladders while trying to maneuver around the festival-goers. However, everyone got pelted with various shades of dye, especially Kelly of the Texas divorcee team of Kelly & Christy.
The clues at the festival led the groups to old Delhi and the Charity Birds Hospital, a clinic that takes care of injured and sick fowl. The teams had to search through the cages for their next clue. The ultimate whiners Terence & Sarah were pretty funny at the hospital. Terence felt that the clue was in a food bowl in a cage filled with birds and ordered Sarah to go in and sift through the pellets. Just watching her trying to coax a bird out of the box was worth the whole evening.
The estranged couple of Ken & Tina, who came in last on the non-elimination lap last week, calmed down this week and worked together with a minimum of fighting. The two encountered a Speed Bump — a task only they had to perform — at the hospital. They had to travel to a nearby Sikh temple and pass out holy water to hundreds of Sikhs until there were no more thirsty temple-goers. They performed the task quickly and made their way to the hospital, where they received their Detour option — Bleary Eyed or Teary Eyed. Five of the contestants chose Bleary Eyed, in which they had to find a series of small numbers hanging from the confusing power lines on a street in Delhi. Nick & Starr finished the task quickly and reached the Pit Stop at a local temple, finishing first for the third straight week and winning a trip to Hawaii. Ken & Tina caught up with Kelly & Christy and Dan & Andrew on the Bleary Eyed task and actually came in fourth.
Terence and Sarah chose Teary Eyed, in which they had to carry heavy bags of hot peppers a quarter of a mile and then crush them to fill a container. They spent the whole time coughing and wheezing and complaining, and still they came in third.
Dan & Andrew and Kelly & Christy, though, got confused on the Bleary-Eyed task. Tina showed Dan & Andrew what they were doing wrong, so they completed the task before Kelly & Christy, coming in fifth.
A teary-eyed Kelly Crabb & Christy Cook were eliminated from the race. They admitted that they ran into problems last night because they didn’t read the Roadblock clue properly, forcing Kelly to run through the gauntlet of partygoers three times. “We actually once again didn’t thoroughly read our clue and we didn’t really understand the task,” said Christy. “It was so hard to concentrate with all that noise and commotion in India and we didn’t take the time to read through it.”
As for their stumble at the Detour, “It’s not that we didn’t read the clue on that one, it was there were so many tags hanging from the messed-up power lines,” said Kelly. “There were big tags and little tags. We just didn’t know. It didn’t specify what kind of tags to look for. It was a mess.”
At the time she did the show, Kelly was working as a sales representative for a pharmaceutical company. “I am not actually really working right now, but I think I may try to pursue acting,” she said. “We both live in Austin, so I would like to try to stay in Texas and see what I can do here.” Christy is still working as a sales rep for a real estate title insurance company in Austin. But she sounds as if she wouldn’t mind trying her luck at acting too. “I would pursue any good opportunity that came my way, sure.”
