Just over a month ago, I blogged about Singapore Air’s upcoming charity auction for seats on the world’s first commercial flight of the new Airbus A380 “superjumbo” jet. The world’s largest airliner will fly from Singapore to Sydney, Australia, and back just 56 days from now. But the eBay auction for seats on its maiden commercial voyage has already begun.
Deal: Singapore Air’s eBay charity auction started on August 27. All of the auctions for individual A380 seats and packages are set to expire less than 4 days from now. Bidding starts at $3.80 for seats in economy class, $38.00 in business class and $380.00 in first class. When I checked earlier today, most of the bidding had already risen above $2,000 for two economy seats, up to $20,100 for two first-class suites. Buy-it-now special packages are available if you crave more VIP treatment.
Are you bidding in the auction? Tell us why or why not by posting in the Comments section below.
More…details: For additional information about bidding requirements (which include registration and pre-qualification), visit Singapore Air’s eBay auction site.
When: The world’s first commercial flight of the A380 will take off from Singapore on October 25 and return from Sydney on October 27. The auction items are only available for bidding until September 1, 2 or 3, 2007.
Why Go: Experience the next generation of luxury transoceanic flight for yourself. All of the proceeds go to benefit non-profit organizations, including Médecins Sans Frontières (aka Doctors without Borders).
Why Not: The new Boeing 787 Dreamliner promises to be 20% more fuel efficient than comparable craft. It could start flying commercial passengers as soon as May 2008.
