Recently the cost of traveling between the main islands of Hawaii has been dropping radically, which is good news for tourists and island residents. The launch of new, no-frills discount airline go!Express has reinvigorated the competition for inter-island flights. For a limited time, Hawaiian Airlines is offering fares from Honolulu to other islands starting at just $25 each way.
Deal: Fares for one-way flights between Honolulu (Oahu) and Kahului (Maui), Hilo and Kona (Big Island) or Lihue (Kauai) start at just $25 for travel now through June 6th, 2007. These special fares do not include taxes and fees of approximately $8.90-10.40 per ticketed flight.
When I tried booking flights to different islands on all of the available dates, I managed to find the special fare of $25, but only available for a limited number of departures each day. Still, the schedules were wide open enough that you shouldn’t have trouble finding a discount flight that fits in with your travel plans.
When: Book now for travel by June 6th, 2007.
Caveat: In the fine print, the Hawaiian Airlines website mentions that tickets “may have a discrepancy of plus or minus $5.00.”
Why Go: If you’re already going to be in Honolulu, take this opportunity to hop on over to a new island and explore.
Why Not: If you can find a cheap flight with a better departure time on go!Express (fares for go!Miles members currently start at $925 each way).

I was in Hawaii from May 2nd to 8th. Before leaving California, I researched interisland flights and discovered Hawaiian Airlines flights between Oahu and the Big Island for $38 round trip, which I quickly booked (flying into Kona airport) for a one-day visit. Were it not for the low, low rate, I wouldn’t have made the interisland trip. So on Monday the 7th I flew from Honolulu to Kona. The flight both ways was very good, smooth takeoffs and landings. And comfortable seating…let’s not forget the comfortable seating and better legroom.
