Your Scene: Santiago Fire from Quail Hill from Irvine ResidentUnited and other airlines are waiving change fees for certain flights and airports because of the Southern California wildfires.

On its website, www.united.com, today United Airlines said the waiver affects passengers traveling today, Oct. 22, through Oct. 25 using airports in the following 10 California cities: Burbank (BUR), Carlsbad (CLD), Los Angeles (LAX), Ontario (ONT), Oxnard (OXR), Palmdale (PMD), San Diego (SAN), Santa Ana (John Wayne; SNA), Santa Barbara (SBA) and Santa Maria (SMX).

The waiver covers flights by United, United Express and Ted Airlines.

Are the fires in Southern California affecting your travel plans?

You must make changes within seven days of your original departure date. Although change fees may be waived, you may owe more money if the new fare is higher.

For details and updates, go to United’s California fires page.

Among other carriers waiving change fees because of the wildfires are American Airlines, which said it would waive the fees for certain passengers traveling Oct. 22 to 25 and using airports in four California cities: Ontario, Palm Springs (PSP), San Diego and Santa Ana. For details, visit aa.com or its policy Web page.

Continental Airlines was waiving change fees for travel Oct. 22 through 25 involving the San Diego airport. For details, visit continental.com or the Continental’s “Travel Notices” page.

    Southern California Wildfires

Cities Affected: Burbank, CA (BUR); Carlsbad, CA (CLD); Long Beach, CA (LGB); Los Angeles, CA (LAX); Ontario, CA (ONT); Orange/Santa Ana, CA (SNA); San Diego, CA (SAN); Santa Barbara, CA (SBA)
Date Range: 10/22/2007 12:30 PM ET through 10/27/2007 3:00 AM ET
Revised Ticket Policy: US Airways has relaxed ticketing policies for cities affected by wildfires. US Airways will waive the standard change fee, advance reservation and ticketing requirements for customers with travel to and from these cities on the dates above. See our revised ticketing policy below for rules and restrictions. Call 800-428-4322 for more information.
If US Airways service continues to operate to the affected destinations, you can make certain changes without incurring the standard change fee, advance reservation or ticketing requirements:

You can move your entire itinerary up to seven days before or after the scheduled origination date, although you cannot alter the length of your trip.
You can apply the full value of your wholly unused tickets toward the purchase of a ticket to an alternate destination, although travel must originate within seven days of the scheduled origination date.
    Terms and Conditions:
Customers traveling on certain tickets – such as some available from third-party ticket discounters, including but not limited to discount travel websites – may not have all elements of the policy available to them. Tickets issued by US Airways for travel on airlines other than US Airways, America West, US Airways Shuttle or US Airways Express will follow the rules of the airline operating the flight(s).

Itinerary changes are subject to availability, and in certain cases, an additional collection fee. Customers will be able to stand by for alternate flights without incurring the standby fee if a satisfactory alternate itinerary cannot be confirmed.
