Who’s charging for the first checked bag? Will I get charged for my second bag too? What if I want to bring my surfboard? Wait, I’m having too good of a time and want to change my return date — how much is that? I just have to bring Fido, who’s going to give me the best deal there, Air Tran?
Don’t waste time clicking through page after page on airline websites or wait for your airline to tell you what the charge will be — The Ultimate Guide to Airline Fees is refreshed as needed and Smarter Travel tells you when the last update occurred on its home page.
Let’s all thank Smarter Travel, Airfare Watchdog and Seat Guru for doing the heavy lifting and putting together an up-to-date grid of who is charging what. The grid takes into consideration 11 airlines and 11 types of fees such as in-flight food fees, booking fees when reservations are made over the phone or in person, additional and overweight bag fees and more.
Airfare Watchdog previously had two lists, one for baggage fees and the other for extra airline fees. Now there’s just one convenient grid to check.

It just seems unfair to characterize the airlines as the ones who are behind these fees. The airlines are desperate because of the high cost of oil and that isn’t being explained most of the time. They are lucky to make any profit these days.
