Oahu, Hawaii - Ohana Islander Waikiki hotel deal

Travel: Oahu - Lanikai Beach When I came across the “renovation special” for the Ohana Islander Waikiki hotel, in Waikiki, Oahu, I pictured a beach getaway set to the soundtrack of chainsaws and concrete hammer drills; I imagined gratefully accepting an offer of a hard hat and earplugs along with my key card at check-in. But for the right discount, I thought, I could make it work.

When the promotion began late last year, the “renovation” part referred to work being done on the Waikiki Beach Walk promenade, adjacent to the hotel. However, upon investigation (I chatted with the reservations staff), I found that guests won’t have to put up with construction noise these days while staying in their discounted rooms.

The promenade renovations have long been completed, and this “renovation special” now functions more as a celebration sale of sorts for the hotel’s own future remodeling, which begins March 31. Starting then, the hotel plans to be completely closed for business for 18 months. So this sale is a last hurrah, for a while.

Act Now: Under this promotion, all of the $99 per night (pre-tax) rooms seem to be sold out. However, there are a few city-view rooms for $109 (pre-tax) open. I plugged in Feb. 27 through March 1 and found availability; it will turn up under “best available rate.” No special booking code is required. But act quickly, because they probably won’t last long. Regular rates for this level room are $189 and up (pre-tax).

When: This offer ends March 31, but the discounted rooms will be booked up well before then.

I will never stay at any Ohana again. They don’t care what kind of rat hole they put you in. Forget the star rating and photos of the rooms, they border on fraud.
I am happy when I see the list of Ohana’s get shorter all the time. This article is nothing more than an advertisement pretenting to be a news article!
