Ronald Ross saw the Travel section’s Deal of the Week about the Horizon Hotel in Palm Springs and felt compelled to send us his receipt from a stay there in 1977 — talk about keeping memories!
The hotel, known then as L’Horizon Hotel, charged roughly $39.75 for a one-night stay in what was Room 2A.
The Los Angeles resident shared his memories of the landmark hotel, which he started visiting about 45 years ago with his family.
“We liked it because it was small and personal,” he wrote in an e-mail. “Every morning breakfast and The Times were brought to your room, and the staff stayed ‘forever.’ ”
Ross also loved the great view of the mountains. But then he feared the worst as the hotel ran into hard times and was closed for a spell. “I assumed that it was just a matter of time before the bulldozers did their magic,” he wrote.
He took a look at our photo gallery of the beautiful Midcentury Modern hotel and plans a visit to see how the redo stacks up to the original. Keep us posted, Ron!
