Last night, Miss USA tripped on stage and Riyo Mori, Miss Japan, was crowned Miss Universe 2007 in Mexico City. Were Southern Californians watching on NBC or were they recovering from the long holiday weekend? The Hotel Camino Real in Mexico City played a major roll in the Miss Universe events.
Deal: The Camino Real has a “Mexico Getaway” promotion going on right now. Weekend room rates are actually cheaper than midweek rates. In July, a “Deluxe” room, with two doubles and a pool view, is $130/night on weekends and $163/night mid-week. “Superior” rooms with two double beds and no view fetch $148/night midweek and $115/night on the weekends.
Caveat: There are so many room and price choices on the online booking feature that it’s a little confusing how to find what you want … without an abbreviation translator. I gave up and picked up the phone to clarify and found the above deals.
When: Until August 31, 2007
Connect/Disconnect: There is internet access in the rooms for a fee, and also a business center, but the reservationist could not tell me what kind of internet it was.
Contact: Camino Real, (800) 722-6466

All Americas should boycott mexican businesses not only for the current illegal alien issue but the way they treated our U.S. contestant….
May 29th, 2007 at 5:27 pm
Why would anyone from the U.S. want to vacation in Mexico after the blatant anti-Americanism that was so boorishly displayed in the pagent last night. If the Mexicans hate Americans so much that they cant even be polite long enough for the sweet contestant to walk across the stage, why should we spend our money there. Maybe they havent heard that we have almost as many Mexicans as they do.
May 29th, 2007 at 5:33 pm
Miss Universe 2007 is the ugliest Miss Universe ever! She’s so thin, her English very poor and her gown looked like a bathrub. The judges for Miss Universe 2007 had very poor taste!
May 29th, 2007 at 6:34 pm
people from the US and all over the world want to visit Mexico because it is a beautiful country with a rich history/cuisine/customs/music/people/beaches/eco-parks/scubadiving/musems/cathedrals/archaelogical wonders/topography/language… i could go on…
There was no anti-americanism shown last night. Ms.USA had no grace, elegance, or real beauty (particularly her visage) - she FELL on her derrière, and was scored higher on the evening gown walk than several of the girls who walked and was then allowed to be in the top 5.
i don’t know if trump, or the event organizers fixed this laughingstock or what. The judges were an abomination with a few exceptions.
It is comletely unfair and ludacris that she was allowed in the top 5 and Srta. Mexico was not (or any of the other 4 for that matter).
they booed her because she is a disgrace and is a manifestation of the hypocrisy of the miss universe organization.
The Mexican audience understands this and were certainly not going to keep quiet with that fraud onstage.
Besos desde el D.F.
May 29th, 2007 at 6:34 pm
i really felt bad for Ms. USA. What a shame for Mexico. They should be thankfull that many American toursit are visiting their country.
May 29th, 2007 at 8:30 pm
They booed Miss U.S. when she felt, that shows you the
gratitute because U.S. allows the indocumented mexicans work and send money to their families.
I wonder if Mexico would allow the gringos go and work while being illegally in the country.
How many indocumented students are attending UNAM
or any high school.
I wonder if Mexico would allow any indocumented gringo participate in a protest marching the streets while carring american flags. . . just wonder
May 29th, 2007 at 8:31 pm
i thought americans are more intelligent then what they percive themsleves to the rest of the world. even though itwas weird that miss usa went to the finals, which seems more like a case of pity than talent its no use saying that americans should stop going to mexico . its more like rest of the world boycotting usa for being a country full of werdly racist patriots
May 29th, 2007 at 9:20 pm
I have no comment. I like is very beautiful girls.
May 29th, 2007 at 10:26 pm
First of all lets get something straight. There has never been any love lost between hard working first world America and lazy third world Mexico. The reality is that Mexicans have always resented Americans because the US is full of hope, prosperous and forward looking, and Mexico is a pit of despair, cooruption, and run by a few wealthy families intent on preserving the status quo at the expense of the poor. By what sophistry of reasoning do Mexicans feel they have a god given right to enter America illegally and then get angry when Americans don’t welcome them with open arms. I might have a lot more sympathy for the Mexican illegals if there weren’t 9 out of 10 Mexicans on the FBI’s wanted list, most of whom are illegal. While I am Canadian and not American I fely total disgust at the shameful behavior of Mexicans at the Miss Universe contest. As the saying goes, ” Success as a nation only comes to those worthy of it”
May 29th, 2007 at 10:32 pm
She’s the ugliest miss universe ever!!
May 29th, 2007 at 11:21 pm
Please, stop complaining about Mexicans coming to the US. Remember that big part of it belonged to them in the past and they are just coming to get something that belongs to their heritage. Anyways, what would be this country without the Mexican laborers….???? it will sink and collapse…white americans are terribly lazy and will never do the job they mexicans do and that keeps this country running. Miss Universe is pretty and Miss USA got what she deserved…next time she better learns to walk in foreign land…or may be americans can walk in other lands only holding a weapon??
May 29th, 2007 at 11:24 pm
I have never seen a Miss Universe contest, and only the end
of this one, but do they all lack class like this one. I could
not believe the swinging of the hips and slithery walk, the
practically nude dresses and frozen smiles. They are most likely very nice wholesome girls, but it just didn’t
come across that way.
May 29th, 2007 at 11:29 pm
usa did should not have been on top 5. and japan should not have won. brazil or korea would have been way better or angola too.
May 30th, 2007 at 12:41 am
Japan Riyo Mori desrved what she got. I like her . She’s so simple and beautiful just like Ms. Philippines as well. But Miss Philippines shoud be on the top 5.
May 30th, 2007 at 12:41 am
Miss Universe should not be that Japanese girl. It should be someone who is from Brazil or Korea. I don’t know how to judge this Miss Universe 2007. I don’t agree with this result. Totally wrong.
May 30th, 2007 at 12:56 am
Congratulations to Miss Japan, She has to be lucky girl
in the world… cause she have chance to round the world
for dedication has she have………..
Please, I want to be All Picture in MIss Universe 2007
Thanks
May 30th, 2007 at 1:03 am
miss Universe is not a competion all about beauty….the girls are not only gorjuz but they are all very inteligent…alot more so than alot of you…u cant say that someone does not deserve to win becoz of ur personal preferance….its is also not fair to say that miss usa did not deserve to be in the top 5 just because of pity…the fact is that the best miss Universe of all would have to be 2004 jenifer hawkins..AUSTRALIA :) so no argument their :p
May 30th, 2007 at 3:22 am
I thought Miss India was absolutely beautiful and had the qualities of a winner. I loved her evening gown.
Anyway, the judges had interaction with these girls throughout the contest. They should know.
Congratulations Miss Japan. You’re refreshing, down to earth and natural.
Btw, I thought Miss USA was absolutely wonderful in the way she picked herself up and continued her walk. What bravery she displayed. It’s not easy going thru something like this. She’s definitely beautioful.
It was wrong for the Mexican crowd to jeer the way they did.
On the whole though I thought the contest was a little boring though.
May 30th, 2007 at 5:42 am
Miss Japan did not seem to deserve the title. She did not stand out to me at all, & didn’t speak English well enough to communicate. English is the business language. If she hasn’t made the effort to learn it by age 20, especially for an international competition, it indicates she’s not business minded for our multicultural world.
Miss USA slipping on her gown, or due to a slippery stage, in no way undermines her accomplishments, character or her talent. Clearly, this could happen to any contestant. (Skaters who have fallen in competition have won the Olympics. There are many uncontrollable elements in these competitions, so why attack her personage for a fall? It’s cruel. She got back up immediately & continued on like a pro, which proves she has maturity, tenacity & courage. She doesn’t let a temporary setback ruin her chances. She’s a winner in character. She proved that.) She is a success & will continue to be successful. She didn’t need to win to have a great future ahead of her. Rachel Smith has a lot to be proud of & she represented the USA very well. She’s human & slipped; so what?
May 30th, 2007 at 6:51 am
I think you Americans are too full of yourselves. Shut up already! This page isn’t to complain about the history of Mexico and America. No one canes about what you guys have to say because it will all be b.s. anyways!
I think the winner is beautiful and she deserved to win! The girl from USA was fake and UGLY! Go JAPAN!!
May 30th, 2007 at 7:11 am
I’d rather be booed than shot at with rubber bullets.
May 30th, 2007 at 7:41 am
i truly enyoyed the show miss japan is very pretty and if refuse to be prejudice against mexican people it leaves you ugly and bitter inside peace
May 30th, 2007 at 8:53 am
So tired of Mexico. If they want to boo anyone, they should boo at their own government. So tired of them blaming the U.S. for everything. We don’t owe them a darn thing. Never traveling there again. Gonna keep my dollars in the USA.
May 30th, 2007 at 10:12 am
Well Miss Japan ewas not one of my favourites but it was a nice change that Japan won. Im really sick and tired of those South American girls with all their plastic surgery like last years Miss Universe Zuleyka Riveira was like A PLASTIC BARBIE DOLL: FAKE LIPS, FAKE BREASTS, AND FAKE TEETH . At least Miss Japan was not fake!
May 30th, 2007 at 10:15 am
Lots of people worry thinking about a day without a mexican, I would worry more of a day without a gringo company that would offer me a job, a gringo government that would allow me to establish a business, to attend a school, or to work. Where the Mariachi Festival would take place or Premio Lo Nuestro, or Nuestra Belleza Hispana, or el Festival Broadway would take place?
Just ask Univision, TeleMundo, TV Azteca and the peopole working for those companies if they would like to move their operations to Mexico
And how about the Señorita Hispana, and all the movie stars and singers that come to Miami to establish their recording business and tape some of their movies?
All of them would rather invest their money, work and live in the bad, ugly, discriminatory, abusive, rotten U.S. than in their own country.
If this country would sink when the mexicans go back to their country, then tell or explain me how come 12 millions of indocumented workers can make the U.S. so properous and more than 100 millions of mexicans can’t
make of Mexico an prosperous nation?
The gringos should be crossing the border to the south.
May 30th, 2007 at 10:50 am
Mexicans are boors and hypocrites. Their booing of the USA contestant is just a sample of their bad manners. As for their demands that they be given special treatment a undocumented workers, they should receive the same treatment their immigration agencies gives to foreigners in Mexico…rape, assault, robbery, extorsion and demands for bribes. Foreigners have to have a special driver’s licence in Mexico with “Extranjero” stamped across it, and they can’t work without papers..which takes months to obtain unless one wishes to pay the immigration officer in charge about 800 dollars. Why does the USA tolerate these people waving the flag of their corrupt and rotten country at demonstrations? They would arrest Americans who did that in Mexico.
May 30th, 2007 at 12:37 pm
why is it that all people can do is show their ‘patriotism’ through racist remarks???
Please, show more education in how you verbalize your hate. Get your story straight and find out the real reason why they booed her.
Congrats Ms Japan :)
May 30th, 2007 at 1:18 pm
What’s with all the racist comments? Why lump a whole race together?
Everyone that is making comments about the US or Mexico as if they were just a single entity is just showing their stupidity.
If you think everyone in an entire country is the same, good or bad, then your brain is infected. It’s infected with a desease called racism.
I know plenty of Mexicans and plenty of Americans. They’res lazy ones, some are great freinds, but not to many are people that I’d hate. But you know what? It has nothing to do with race
May 30th, 2007 at 1:36 pm
illegal aliens should not demand a permanent residency or citizenship in this country. they should just go back to their native country and do the right way coming in to the US. It is very unfair for people who are trying to get here the legal way for so many years. go home illegal immigrants! and also quit protesting because that’s just a show that they are ignorant!
May 30th, 2007 at 1:38 pm
For those of you who made comments about Miss Japan not deserving to win because she can’t speak English and that she should’ve learned the language by now are either ignorant or uneducated or totally egocentric. If you’ve watched carefully, only Miss USA answered the question given her in English and the other four including Miss Japan answered in their native tongues. If you don’t know it by now, to speak in their own native tongue in an international arena means great pride in their country and in their culture. Such is the essence of this competition — It’s not a platform for the United States to impose its own culture or great lack of multilingual skills.
May 30th, 2007 at 2:13 pm
it really hurts me when i see some people prejudice against mexicans i’am a minority and i believe when you mingle with all races and really get to know them and embrace other cultures all prejudice leaves you try it sometime i love L.A. it has orient european hispanic
prejudice is the fear off the unknown go miss japan
May 30th, 2007 at 3:30 pm
Don’t understand why Mexican people show so much animosity towards Americans. I will never forget how their fans booed the American soccer team while chanting “Osama, Osama” God forbid an American audience act this way. I understand that lots of countries hate the American Goverment but why boo an innocent beauty queen? Please Mexico, limit your attacks to the American Gov., Miss USA had nothing to do with it.
May 30th, 2007 at 3:39 pm
Mahid, get a clue, it is not mexicans who felt the prejudice at the pagent that we are discussing. It is the American contestant that was subjected to insults only because she was an American. Stop the pity for your ethnic group, but treat others how you would like to be treated. Americans treat Mexicans well, they actually get treated better than Americans get treated by Mexicans.
May 30th, 2007 at 5:17 pm
If you really don’t understand why so many from Mexico show hostility and animosity toward the United States, maybe you should go back and read these comments again.
Irish American and disgusted with all of the bigotry here…
May 30th, 2007 at 6:25 pm
The U.S. should retrain its ballistic missles on Mexico!
May 30th, 2007 at 8:31 pm
I agree that booing Miss USA was wrong but the comments posted here are worse. As a US rep, she is being booed for what she stands for. A symbol of the country that starts unjust wars, condones torture, imprisons innocent and gulty alike, and stole Texas from Mexico. Boo! And some attitudes: “Mexicans are lazy. Miss Universe is ugly. Her English is poor.” Are these writers serious? Some Mexicans may be lazy but so are some Americans. Ugly? Miss Universe is a babe! Her English may not be perfect but how is your Japanese? As Miss Universe her English doesn’t have to be perfect. Miss Japan represents the world, that is mostly non-native English speakers. Americans: welcome to reality!
May 30th, 2007 at 9:29 pm
Good Night!
Opps!I read that last Miss Universe was from South America?!She is from Puerto Rico!Puerto Rico is not South America,…
Concerning the way people treatedMiss America, shame on you my friends! She didn’t deserve that! It’s not polite.God Bless USA!You can disagree with politicians, but she is just a girl representing her country.
Well,Congrats Miss Japan,I would vote for another,but that’s ok.Thanks,Peace
PS:just correcting the verb above:Treated instead of treat, sorry!
May 31st, 2007 at 3:20 am
Being of Mexican descent, I am embarassed by the booing on the part of some Mexicans. But I also know that that is not the comportment of most Mexicans. You should not judge All people of of a certain group because of the behavior of some among them. That’s like saying that because some Americans (KKK) hanged negroes and Mexicans, that therefore ALL Americans are KKK. There are bad apples in ANY group of people.
May 31st, 2007 at 6:34 am
It’s absolutely stunning how quickly a forum on the Miss Universe Pageant has been deformed and hijacked by those who can’t resist an opportunity to inject political and racist venom into the dialogue. “Lazy Mexican”…? Do people really still embrace that stereotype and lean on it in what should be an intelligent discourse?! Y’all been watching too much Mencia and confusing him for Jon Stewart.
Anyhow, I was watching the pageant after the Spurs game in a bar — in Mexico — and came away with the following thoughts: First, a panel of judges pulled from reruns of Star Search would have been more legitimate. Second, the entire bar (mostly US citizens) booed when the American contestant advanced to the finals. In fact they booed when she received her (high) score in the evening gown competition — where she FELL! You just don’t fall. Period. I imagine the crowd was also booing at how rigged the competition was — especially since they probably paid money to be there. Third, once they boiled it down to the top 10, the women (including the Japanese and the American) all seemed pretty amazing - at least as far as looks are concernced. The Japanese girl in particular seemed to exude a little more personality and energy than the others. To the extent you can earn something like this, she earned it. Fourth, this is the TRUMP MISS UNIVERSE COMPETITION! Can you think of anything more bogus you could have been watching at that moment in time. At least I was in Baja with a Tecate in my hand and some live mariachis in the background.
Viva!
May 31st, 2007 at 6:57 am
Shoe on the other foot would be:
Miss Universe contest in Las Vegas — Miss Mexico trips and falls, Americans boo and hiss, jeer and cackle because they disapprove of Mexican Narco-trafficking, human trafficking, Human rights abuse, graft, corruption, the pesky Mexican murder problem, the 400 unsolved murders of women killed in Juarez…stuff like that yada yada yada…so let’s boo the Mexican beauty contestant because what, she represents all that evil stuff? It sounds incredible, and I hate to say this classist thing, but face it; Americans have more class than that! They wouldn’t boo a Muslim…..or an Iraqui — or a Mexican….
May 31st, 2007 at 8:15 am
Ms. USA is so ugly. I don not know why she was in the top 5. Her answer to the question is not really excited. Her evening gown is so ugly. Her shape in bikini so plain. Ms. Thailand, Philipine should be in the top 5.
Ms. japan is not beatiful and her evening gown is so ugly. But she is intelligent and her shape is beautiful, elegant, not too big as Latino women. she’s sweet too. I’m tired of Latino to win all the time. Anyway, I like ms Korea to win. She has very neatiful smile.
I hate Ms. Universe 2006. She did not want ms Japan to win. She had a bitchy look and loose control of the crown when she put it on Ms. Japan. I hate this woman. She should go to hell. rasism-like look.
May 31st, 2007 at 8:00 pm
Miss Japan deserves the title. I congratulate her, well done Miss Japan. She is beautiful, simple, intelligent and genuine. I think the contest is about the holistic beauty, the whole package. I do not think anybody in this world is ugly. So shame on people who use the word ugly. Shame on people who are critical about her English, how many words of other languages do you speak apart from your mother tongue?Don’t be arrogant!
June 3rd, 2007 at 8:26 am
I agree with the comments of US citizens boycotting Mexico. The arguments of part of the US once belong to Mexico is ridiculous. Try knowing your history. It belongs to Spain. Also almost every country in the world over the course of their history was help as part of another nation.
So, if you’re Mexican and you want it back start a war. You were beaten before and you’ll be beaten again. The other argument that we should understand this booing was done do to issues between the two countries. Hogwash! Their many fine people of Mexican decent, but this garbage that boos a contestant, or our Flag at a soccer match in LA should remember we don’t go to Mexico and do that.
As far as the rich heritage of the Mexican people, yes the indigenous Indians have that. But again history shows to nations France and Spain colonized Mexico and tried a for of genocide on the Indians as they did in almost every country they occupied.
So learn before you speak and this is one American who will not travel to Mexico again. Oh, add to that the last time I was there I was robbed in Xatapa and that was a circus with the hotel and the police.
June 4th, 2007 at 9:42 am
Everyone missed the point, it’s a contest. Regardless of what anyone thinks, one person has to win. Many of us had our favorites, but she didn’t win, okay. Life goes on….
The people who booed Ms USA are very disrespectful. What kind of people would boo a smart girl who took a chance at the title of MS USA and won. She has nothing to do with Politics. The pageant is for all US citizens women. It take GUTS to enter a contest. The money Ms USA won is for her education. American is about freedom, Mexico doesn’t have that. The people who booed are NUTS and IGNORANT to boo a girl who is making a good life for herself through education. Well, there is a reason why Mexicans are coming over here to America. If Mexico was that great, mexicans wouldn’t be crossing the border illegally to find job.
MS USA, YOU DID A GREAT JOB!!!!! You are still a WINNER!!!
September 20th, 2007 at 12:57 pm
Miss Universe 2007, Riyo Mori, is the ugliest Miss Universe ever. No more comments.
November 5th, 2007 at 12:28 pm
I agree with Mark. Riyo Mori is so ugly, the ugliest Miss Universe ever. Dissapointed with the result. Miss Korea is far more beautiful.
May 9th, 2008 at 3:33 am
I agree that Miss Universe organization sucks at P.R, I met them in Kenya in 2002, and I found Miss Russia, The Miss Universe then to be a wonderful person, but the Miss Universe crew are rude, racist and bigots.
I own and run the Miss Iraq pageant as of 2006 and they gave me such a hard time and when they heard that Trump wanted to grant a special award to Miss Iraq 2006 at MU 2006, making it only the second time Iraq would have competed, what did they do?
they didnt grant me the license, stating that I should have applied for it during september 2005, prior to the 2006 Miss Iraq Pageant, while they grant and entry to Kosovo which isnt even a legal country yet nor a member of the United Nations, and Im sure they didnt apply for a license in September of 2007.
Ii also feel that Miss Universe results are NOT fair, as long as a delegate has a sash that says “USA” this automatically grants her a spot in the semi finals and finals, and throughout the Miss Universe history, USA won 7 times and only missed the semi-finals in 1976, 1999 and 2002.
Miss USA 2007 is anything but beautiful, and I guessed Miss Japans victory without even seeing her, I knew it, because Mikimoto the official sponsor and Crown designer and supplier of the Tiara’s that the winners of MISS USA, UNIVERESE and TEEN USA get as part of their prize package is a Japanese company.
Miss Universe and all pageants pre-fix the winners that is obvious because all countries submit an entry form with photos of their representatives enclosed and in 2002, Miss Lebanon, Christina Sawaya was a strong contender, so what did MUO do, they know about the political tension between Lebanon and Israel and so they put these two girls as room-mates, now Miss Lebanon is always under instructions from her National Organizers and Government not to deal or talk to the Israeli contestant nor is she allowed to be photographed with her ( I know its silly its only a beauty contest not a world summit) nevertheless, MUO put these girls as room mates so that Miss Lebanon would withdraw and she did, then they didnt
want Russia to win, and when she did, they did their best to fire her so that Panama would take over, why? because Panama has won the right to host the 2003 contest.
Middle Eastern beauties from Lebanon, Egypt, Israel and Turkey rarely ever make the semi finals and only two countries won in 1971 Miss Lebanon won Miss Universe and then in 1976, Rina Messenger of Israel.
Miss Turkey and Miss Israel winners compete in Miss World while the runner up goes to Miss Universe, even Miss India changed and started sending the winner to Miss World and runner up to Miss Universe, most nations are going for Miss World because its classy and fair.
I was deeply offended at MISS USA 2007’s visit to Iraq, she came to visit her troops, she didn’t bother to even apply for a visa and started entertaining her troops, endorsing an illegal occupation and supporting this crime against humanity an illegal invasion and occupation of a country that is a member of the United Nations.
When we annexed Kuwait in 1990, it was a big deal and everyone boycotted Iraq and condemned it but when the U.S invades a country its OK.
I rest my case
